Hey Guys, I have a friend in Orlando that can't find a range to go to and break in is new AR. All he can find is pistol ranges. Does anyone have a line on a rifle range without joining a club? Thanks for the help!

Try the Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club www.cfrpc.com, 14646 Weewahootee Road, Orlando, FL 32832 thought I think you may need a membership. So I guess that doesn't help. You could also go to http://floridashootersnetwork.com/ and post a question there.

If your buddy doesn't find a public range to try out his AR and doesn't mind driving a little - he may wish to check out the public range at Ocala National Forest. I can't personally recommend it, as I've never used it, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

(http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/florida/recreation/index_oca.shtml)The Ocala Rifle Range was built with funds provided by the Pittman-Robertson Act to be used by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Hunter Education Program. This Act levies an excise tax on all sporting arms and ammunition, which is then used for wildlife restoration and hunter education. When classes are not scheduled, the range is available to the public. The facility is open from sunrise to sunset and is unsupervised, so cooperation among shooters is a must! While backboards are provided, they must be maintained and the range is usually closed on Wednesdays for repairs. Shooters should bring their own targets and tacks or staples, and those using the shotgun range should bring their own targets. There is no fee to use the range. The range is located within a wildlife management area boundary, so transporting firearms to and from the range is limited to state and county roads and prohibited on forest service roads. Find the range’s location on FS 88 just 0.7 mile north of SR 40, see the developed recreation sites/trails map (http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/florida/local-resources/images/maps/oca/ocala%20rec%20trai%20map.pdf).

There's also the Titusville Rifle & Pistol Club. From what I gather, it's open to the public, range fees are $10/day but the hours are pretty limited (usually 0900-1200 or 0900-1300):

Jesus Christ NO! You are asking for nothing but trouble out there. Avoid this place like the plague. I grew up shooting on that range and now drive 3x's the distance to bradford shooting farm in graham florida just to avoid it.

What kind of trouble?

I used to go there years ago when I would camp/hunt Ocala and never had any issues.

The stuff I could tell you wouldn't even sound real. I suppose if you go on a weekday morning and no one is there then your ok but otherwise steer very clear.

People being shot or shooting themselves on a more than average basis out there.

Crazy unsafe gun handling

No grasp of what COLD and HOT range means

Sweeping of the line every single time I was there by someone

Getting you stuff stolen when you are 100 yards down range putting up targets

Very VERY strange characters that show up with some very suspect weapons

This wasn't every now and then. This was every time.

I have not been in over 5 years but last trip was exactly as discribed above, I personally wouldn't go back without a unit sized group covering my six and both flanks.
