I’m thinking about getting a BCM 14.5” SOCOM upper and I’m wondering which muzzle device to get on it. It is to be pinned and welded so I will have to live with this decision. The BCM mod 0 is about $40 more than the A2X. Is there a good reason to go with the mod 0 over the A2X?

Not really. The heavier barrel will help more than compromise brake.

I had a BCM compensator on my carbine. For $89.95 I couldn't really see the big whoop about it. I ended up installing a simple flash hider.

You could always get it non-pinned and use a “pistol” lower and try a few devices before you pin. I like the close-tine Warcomp.

Any chance you'll ever want to run a suppressor on the rifle?

If it is to be pinned I'd get a device that would take the suppressor I would most likely get.

Here are the ones I use (I don't have any pinned): https://www.store.silencerco.com/collections/silencer-accessories/products/specwar-trifecta-flash-hider?variant=362735069

I’m looking at the same upper and also may get it pinned and welded. This will be my 3rd AR so pinned and welded doesn’t bother me.

I ended up going with a mid-length 16” upper from BCM instead of the SOCOM. I do have plans to rebuild another upper I have with the 14.5” in a few months though. Thanks for the recommendations I’ll definitely keep them in mind.

I settled on a pinned A2. From what I saw here plus reviews on YouTube I couldn’t see what the extra $$$ made it reasonable.

Yea when I get the parts I’ll probably just use an A2 I got laying around or take the Phantom off my old bbl.

unless you are using your rifle in competition, an A2 will serve you well. for me, flash hider beats a comp/brake. if you plan on using a suppressor, flash hider is still a solid option.

If muzzle brake, check out VG6 Precision? I like the gamma. If flash hider, check out JP Enterprises 3 Prong (would recommend Smith Enterprises Vortex as well, but I don't think that gets you to legal length).

Appropriate muzzle device from appropriate manufacturer if you're ever going to run suppressed. Then again, there's Griffin Armament for a2x.
