May not be a copycat but basic crime related thing, like drug deal gone bad, etc:
"reports police are looking for a black man with short hair, slight build, wearing yellow-colored jeans, a blue hoodie and a gun pistol tucked in his belt."
Shooting reported at Central Michigan University; suspect at large
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –School officials say police are responding to a report of shots fired at a residence hall at Central Michigan University.
The university said on its Facebook page Friday morning that the report concerns Campbell Hall on campus. The university says the suspect is still at large. The school says police are urging students to take shelter.
The school issued the posting around 9:30 a.m.

Has someone in the media noticed that the the huge amount of coverage given to these guys only lessens the time between events by the next lunatic seeking attention and infamy?
If we agree that the shooters are mentally ill and they are seeking attention, what is the due diligence on the part of the media?
Does their actions in what degrades in to a media circus only promote the next event to happen?

I believe you are 100% correct in these thoughts and recommendations. Let them remain anonymous and without named coverage.
Earlier this week we had the POTUS comment about Due Process and that perhaps we should take the guns first and Due Process be damned.
I'm beginning to see the logic in cases where someone has published an actual threat on a public media forum against a person or places.
In the case of Broward County, that may well be all it would have taken to remove the guns and get the shooter in to a institution for evaluation.
I think many of the Constitutional scholars here misread the intent of his words, but I do think the legal system as it is would have allowed that to happen had someone in the Sheriffs Department actually have done their job.

Exactly. This is one concept we should consider discussing as a country and probably the only one item I feel the Brits got correct in their laws.
Only what happened, where it happened and when, until all investigation and legal proceedings are concluded with the matter.
Avoids potential tainting of a jury in a criminal proceeding
Doesn't falsely accuse those in the court of public opinion - ruining lives without due process or conviction
Avoids sensationalizing violent and or criminal acts for those without the mental ability to resist taking similar action, and create a feeding frenzy further polarizing American's on either side of the issue.
I'm open and willing to accept that my position might be missing a key legal/constitutional concept - feel free to point that out in a response or IM.

Saw something on a local news site in Michigan that stated police engaged suspect, shot him and deceased, a few minutes later a refresh removed that portion of the story.

Unfortunately sensationalizing violent and or criminal acts is what gets the media ratings. The current thinking in the media is Highest Potential Ratings = Highest Potential Profits (the higher their ratings, the more they can charge advertisers). Sadly they use this to justify their view of not having any skin in the game as far as bad things happening in part because of their egging people on.

Dividing the country is what they are after. They try it with sexism, racism, environment, gun control, *phobia, etc. The intelligentsia driving media ideology requires the loss of the individual common man so that socialism/globalism can be enacted as society’s orthodoxy. Dislodging democratic unity around a set of enduring transcendent values is paramount.
These events must be exploited for that to happen. Local news MUST be national/international news. Your problem must become my problem.
I doubt they would every willingly not exploit these issues until the ideology and the money no longer converge. It doesn’t serve their purpose.

This looks like a domestic/generally stupid shooting unrelated to the school except in geographic location.
CMU is a decent school academically, but it's not top tier, it's pretty easy to get into, and it's near some rough cities. I know nothing about the suspect, but it's not uncommon for CMU and its small town Mt. Pleasant to have some crime that is not found in other towns of similar size in the state. Mt. Pleasant is in a rural, farming area.
