This winter we changed our hunting on our 300 WM's to the 220 grain ELD's and the our tactical load to the 225's. They shoot lights out in everything we have loaded.

Fast forward to yesterday, Mark rolled some LMT MWS ammo using the 168 ELD's with MEN brass, 42.3 grains of 4064 powder and it shot a ragged hole first group out. Load wasn't super hot at 2475 fps but acceptable.

We are going to play with some 178 grain ELD's with our 308's and expect nothing but the same. We will update the thread when we rock that load.

PB,

Good to hear your having success with the ELDs. I have been shooting the 178s and 200gr bullets out of my 300wm, 300wsm, and also the 308s. They do shoot really well. I think you could at least get those 168s at 2600 plus, no? Last weekend we got single digits SD 5 round groups out of a 16 and 20 inch 308s with the MV at 2613 with 178gr pills. Funny how my APC is just as fast with the 16 inch barrel as the 20 inch rem 700. Using the magneto speed v3 for velocities and data. I am going to be working up some loads for the 300wm in the ELDx, but it's hard to get away from the 200gr accubond when it shoots 1/2 inch 5 round groups at 3k fps.

Yea, next batch we will probably bump it up a bit. What is your APC load, thats legit velocity out of 16 inch gas gun? We got our 220's right at 2900 fps out of our 300WM, that a wind bucking round. The main reason I like heavies is to buck the wind.

Yeah. We'll ring out some more velocity next batch. The load data was for the previous MWS barrel which shot hot as hell.... tight bore or something.

I've experienced the same with ELD's in a couple 6.5 CM's.
Their 140 M's and 143 ELD-X hunting bullets have both shot under MOA regularly.
The .6XX BC is pretty foreign to me.
My Ballistic program shows with a modest MV of 2730 fps, bullet is 2063 FPS at 1,000 yds and still 1628 fps at 1750 yds.

It was with the factory 178gr ELD-X fastest was 2628. Slowest of the day was 2602. I see right at 2600 +/- with Federal Gold Metal Match also in my 16 inch APC. With the QDC suppressor. Not sure why the SR25 slings them so fast. I haven't hand loaded anything yet for that gun. The 300win and 300short mags I typically use H1000 and H4831. The short gets some H100v also.

I bought some TAP 168’s. Need to chrono those bad boys. I have FGGM factory fodder that will get a little chrono attention as well.

Need to check that vs our loads. I don’t mind giving up a little velocity for accuracy. But it’s a balancing act.

Oh that's the battle I deal with. My rem 700 would not shoot in the same hole until I dropped velocities 250fps less. Was a deal breaker and I sold it. Some guns like it hot, some don't. When going Longer range, I like to squeeze as much velocity I can and still maintain 1moa or better.. now this is making me want to work up some new loads!!

The factory Hornady 130 ELD 260 ammo did this in my LaRue.

The 5 shot groups are proportionally impressive. Not sure if I can load anything much better.

edit: crap pic is huge, link is probably better.

Our 178's landed yesterday. Might sling a few this weekend if we get out. Gotta paint a room Saturday, hopefully I finish that ass whipping.

I just got back from South Africa where I used the 212 gr. 30-caliber ELD-X in a .300 Weatherby to take Kudu, Blue Wildebeest and Black Wildebeest. These bullets performed very well on all three animals. The Kudu was hit at 335 yards broadside with a slight quarter. The bullet entered just behind the right shoulder, penetrated completely and exited the left shoulder. The bull ran about 25 yards before falling. The Black was taken with two shots- the first was a double lung at 210 yards, the second to stop the animal at about 230 through both shoulders. The Blue was hit at 190 in the chest while facing dead on and the bullet broke the left shoulder. This was the only bullet that did not exit and unfortunately the skinners forgot to retrieve it. I would’ve loved to see how it mushroomed and measured it’s retained weight. I’m continually impressed with these and will compare them to the Berger 215 gr. Hybrids in a long-range .300 WinMag which is in the works.

The load that I used with these 212’s in 74.0 grains of RL23 in Norma brass with a Federal 215 Match primer. I’m getting 2875 FPS out of 26” LAW M704.

Outstanding opportunity and “ammo test”.

Thanks, and it was. The PH’s were impressed enough that I think they’ll test them. They tend to favor Game Kings for all-around hunting and Accubonds and Barnes as a tougher option.

Congratulations on a great adventure. Nice to see that you were well aware of what was going on during the festivities...
