View Full Version : Anybody use Federal AE9FP 147 grain 9mm flat point FMJ ammo?
I have a chance to buy a bunch of this stuff relatively cheaply. I have a Ruger 9e and 1911s. I'm concerned about the truncated cone flat point feeding? Anybody with real world experience with this round?
No problems with Glock and Kahr weapons. Quality stuff.

I have been using it in a couple different pistols and a 9mm AR on a dedicated Colt pattern lower without any problems. It is actually all I have been buying when I get plinking 9mm.
No issue in Glocks, AR PCCs, Scorpions, and even a POF MP5 that can't feed HPs. I like the bullet shape for training ammo because it somewhat replicates my duty/carry HP ammo to hopefully replicate feeding and POI.

They feed just fine in my Wilson Combat 5" 9mm.
Feeds reliably, very light and smooth recoil impulse.
Its always been reliable, but the red box stuff has terrible accuracy IME.
The federal aluminum has better accuracy, but it could just be my guns.

Curious. Compared to what ammo? I’ve always liked the red box stuff. Accuracy seems comparable to Lawman or any other mainline ball ammo.
I use this ammo almost exclusively. never any issues. runs great in my CZ Scorpion EVO SBR with Omega 9k.

Actually, now that i think about it, i never shot the 9. The 40 165 gr is what i used, 2 different lots, both wouldnt group less than 6” while everything else was around 4”.
Because of this experience i never tried the 9. I do use lawman with good sucess in 9, so if its comparable, maybe its not as bad.
As for reliability, the flat nose never caused issue in my glock or m&p, but i hear 1911s are sometimes finicky with HP, so it may be worth trying a few boxes before buying a case.

I’m quite satisfied with the 180gr AE. I’ve been shooting B8s to work on accuracy for the last few range sessions and I’ve been able to knock out the X ring more than ever before. Never tried the 165 as we shoot 180 for work.
I've shot tons of AE in 115/124/147 grains in Glocks, Berettas, and Sigs without issue. I believe it's the most common off
the shelf ammunitions used in practical pistol competitions.
It is my issued practice ammo. I use it in 9mm 1911s, glocks, berettas, sigs, rugers, S&W 3rd gens and polymer guns. Never noticed any issues with the ammo itself. It seems to feed in the most finicky of guns.
I shoot AE 147gr all the time... it's great stuff. I'm either running that or Lawman 147gr.

I load my own 147 Gr. for local matches & practice but I use this American Eagle 147 GR. Flat Point for all Major Matches. I cannot get my reloads to shoot as good as this ammo and i've tried everything.

Is there much of a difference between 124 gr and the 147gr? Would 147 be a better option for a 9mm carbine? Whats the main difference?

What kind of pistol do you compete with when using the AE 147g?
