What are these UAE folks carrying? Some sort of AR?

My non-expert eye would say "no, not an AR". Looks to be an M16/M4 family of rifle, no magazines. We do (or did IIRC) supply them with some military equipment/arms.

Caracal in the UAE makes the 816 piston M16 variant. The first guns had a form factor very similar to the Sig Sauer USA 516. The guns in the photo have a very 516 look about them.

LOL I remember reading about that "controversy" on my second deployment. I can think of at least one unit that had them in theatre.

I was thinking they look awfully Sig'ish.
