View Full Version : .357 Sig in G22 mags, g2g?

Getting mixed information on different forums figured I would ask here and get a definitive answer.

Is there any issues using .357 Sig ammunition in a G31 but feeding it with magazines for a G22?

I know they should be the same but it looks like Glock makes separate ".357" marked followers I was unsure if it was just superficial or if there is a geometry difference between them and actual .40 marked followers.

Thanks!

I've done it both ways with FMJ and HP and had no issues, even mixing say a G22 mag with a G32.

Like you said, they make different followers, but I had no malfunctions using them randomly. When I was heavily into Glocks I had a box for 17 mags and a box for 22/31.

Obviously use the correct magazine for carry, but for play? Rock on.

I dont see why it wouldn't work. I used 357 sigs in my Glock 35 for years in IDPA.

They should work with no issues. Had a G31 and used G22 mags for a few years that was shot at least once a week with zero issues! Sometimes the G31/32 mags that are found at various sites are on sale wheres the G22/23 ones are not.

I never had any issues with my G23 but I keep dedicated G23 mags for .40 and G32 mags for 357 Sig .... But no issues loading up and shooting 357Sig in the G23 mags

Works fine. I wore out a Glock 32 (that Glock replaced) using G22 and g23 mags. During the ban that was the only choice. I eventually traded out the followers but it was fine with old school 40 Mags. Loved the 32. Great gun.

I have a G32 357 sig that's probably got 5k through it on the same barrel and mags....little loose but still hits where I aim.

Mine started to self destruct at about 20k rounds.

I just got a new .357 auto barrel (Factory G32) for a G27.

I've ran .40 mags with .357 auto in a G32 and don't recall a problem with them. The pistol did have some rounds fail to feed when it was brand new. Rounds wouldn't get up to the feed ramp. So with some careful hand filing I extended the ramp so to speak. Then polished up (not a mirror, just to match the finish on the rest of the ramp) what I filed. No problems since.

I have always noticed that Gold Dots feed harshly in .40's and .45's. Less so in 9mm but even that isn't as smooth as some other bullets.

Instead of a nice, "Shick" or "cli-shick" I hear more of a "Kla-Chuck". And if I hand feed rounds slowly it's obvious that the Gold Dots smack into the bottom of the ramp, bounce off and up a hair, then go up and into the breach during firing. But hand feeding, they'll get stuck on the ramp. I don't like that.

XTP's and other bullets with smaller ogives slide in more easily and are less on the edge of reliability vs Good Dots. (Glock .357's, .40's, .45's)

Now if you want to see smooth feeding check out a Beretta 92 or Cheetah. It doesn't matter how slowly I hand-operate the slide of my Cheetah a JHP glides in gently.

Anyhow back to the OP.

I have a few .357 mags but the .40 mags I intend to use the G32/G27 hybrid are .40 mags with .357 followers. As far as I know there are three kinds. #1, #2, and #3. The #3's look very much like the .40 #9's to me. Might even be the same except the markings? I'd have to measure with a caliper, thats how close they are.

I have a G23 and I bought a fluted Alpha Wolf .357 Sig barrel for it. I have 4 or 5 .40 cal mags and 1 .357 mag. Due to the price of ammo for .357 Sig I don’t shoot it as much as I would like to, but what shooting I’ve done I haven’t experienced any issues with the .40 mags. I have only shot fmj through mine, so I don’t know how HP ammo would perform. Here are some pics of the magazines to compare. In pic #1 they look very similar as you would expect.

In pic #2 you can see the G22 mag’s follower is marked with 10, and the G31 mag is marked 3.

In the 3rd pic you can notice subtle differences, .357 is on the left, .40 on the right.

For defensive use I think it would be wise to use the corresponding mags or followers for optimal reliability. For range use either works from my limited experience.

Thanks for those pics. I didn't know .40 followers were up to #10. It would be interesting to read Glocks purpose for each revision.

I ordered several .357 #3 followers for use in .40 mags. As well as to replace a #1 .357 I'm an old-but-new gen 3 9 rnd .357 mag. The #1 follower is very different.

Hopefully the followers attach to the mag springs the same way over the variations.

Put 200 rounds through it with a beat to hell G22 mag and it was fine, ended up getting a threaded Alphawolf barrel for it too.

Definitely going to buy a few actual G31 mags for it just to be on the safe side, but for playing around the G22 mags seem to be ok.

This was a dirt cheap pistol and the plan is to make it into a Roland type range toy and to take advantage of all the .357 Sig brass that the local PD leaves scattered after their quals.

I never had any issue using G22 mags in my G35 w/LWD .357 barrel.
