Sometimes when I make a mix CD, I'll change my mind about the song list and end up giving the "reject" to a buddy of mine.

Last time I did that, I thought he was going to kiss me when he saw it had Telstar on it.

Summer in the City was Lovin' Spoonful.

And yes, I left some obvious choices out.

Play the ones I did post and it becomes obvious. Okay, I'll make it easy on ya. Find and listen to "Summer Fun" by the Barracudas for that "Oh, THAT's what he was talking about" moment.

Well, I don't go back that far, and I really don't have a set "playlist" of anything... But I like more "fun"/ Open road driving type music, and nothing is better for that than a good remix of some of the music out there that is either awful or overplayed interminably everywhere.... almost makes life worthwhile again...

Green Day "Boulevard of..." 80's pop remix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z2ZyBt2Qcs
Green Day "september" 80's pop remix

LDR "born to die" 80s/synth remix

Yeah....I can see that one. That song reminds me of the many road trips where you stop at some greasy spoon at nearly midnight, exhausted, just wanting a bite to eat, and looking around at the other patrons to figure out which one is "The Hitcher".

I'm not a huge Skynard fan, so we are in agreement.

I don't know if you follow John Sandford, the main character in his LE books is a guy named Lucas Davenport (and now slowly transitioning to Virgil Flowers). In one book he (Davenport) was always asking folks what to put on his new MP3 player, this was the result.

A few I'm not familiar with, but know and really like almost all of it.

I might have to pull out Brothers in Arms and give it a turn on the table.

Waitin' for the Bus / Jesus just left Chicago - ZZ Top

"Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" by ZZ Top.

Frankly, one of the happiest times of my life was when I didn't have a girlfriend and only a few casual friends and bar buddies. I used to go to this little saloon on Friday night and eat pizza and drink enough beer to get me started. Then I'd drive home and really get with the beer consumption. It was somewhat of a solitary life but I loved it and miss it so. Not a care in the world. I'd stay up and listen to Coast-to-Coast AM until I fell asleep (read: passed out), and I'd get up on Saturday morning as if nothing had happened the night before--because it didn't--and that "nothing" is what made it special. I could relax and not stress about anything and just enjoy the evening.

Anyway, that's what "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" reminds me of. I hated for that time of my life to end. But now I've got a chick that I really dig and my life is a lot more complicated, and I guess the only thing you can count on is that things change.
