Replacing Front sight base?

I am sure this has been answered before but I am having trouble finding much in the way of solid answers.

Is it possible to replace a FSB that has been removed and lost?

Or more specifically is there a good way to drill holes that line up with the cuts in the barrel?

I am in the process or trying to fix someones screwups and this seems the best way to go about it if it is possible.

Not really. If it's going on a berm shooter put a clamp on FSB on it or just save the barrel for a free float build.

I thought the problem was putting a new FSB on a blank barrel. Or using a different Gas block. Shouldn't a similar FSB likely align to the old holes especially given the large difference in hole size between the small gas port and the relatively huge FSB hole?

Or I'm missing something ;-)

This. Much less heartache to buy a new barrel with an FSB in place, and run FF with the old barrel.

You go two problems when dealing with an FSB, first, a jig is used to hold the barrel and FSB in proper relationship as they are drilled together for the taper pins (got that jig?). Second, once that process is done it is like a figerprint to that AR which why you can't just slap on another FSB. As mentioned above, just FF that barrel and save yourself a migraine.

Got a Freeish BCM barrel that had the FSD badly cut down and had been reprofiled. Good barrel overall but had been hoping to use a FSB and not a Lowpro gas block or other similar solution.

That would have been my recommend as well. Not sure what his wait times are, but I am sure he can do it.

Gunz, wouldn't make sense with this type of operation to just jump right to over size pins over attemping to use the standard ones?

I found a BCM barrel someone had done the same thing to, with less than 100 rounds down the tube. Got it for less than half price. I just used an old Armalite clamp-on.

I can see their utility in this application, but I have always cringed at clamp-on gas blocks, in particular those with a fixed sight tower. The AEC guy in me just pictures a gas shut-off vavle.
