Pictures: Glock Stock Sights vs. Blacked-Out Rear Sight/Hi-Viz Front Sight

I know there are a lot of sight options out there (e.g. three dot, "dot the I", etc), but it seems like there's a growing consensus that one should have a plain black rear sight and a brighter front sight post (i.e. fiber optic, tritium, what-have-you).

Here is what I hope are some helpful comparison photos. I lined up two Glock slides side-by-side. The one on the left has the stock Glock sights, the one on the right has a simple Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight with a factory rear sight that I blacked out with a Sharpie.

When the rear sight comes into focus, the factory sight is clearly "busy". There's a lot going on, and the eye is naturally drawn towards the big white U-shape:

When the front sight comes into focus, the bright green really stands out without any distraction.

Of course, there are limitations. Fiber optics ≠ night sights, so one of these days I'm going to get proper Ameriglo Hackathorns (photo taken from Amazon's product page):

But for under $25, I feel like I vastly improved my sight picture.

I'm a huge fan of Ameriglo when it comes to night sights. The Hack's are the best value out there as you can usually get them shipped to your door for about $60 from Optics Planet (with coupon). Fiber optics are also a good choice if you're looking for a more pin-point / precision set up. I'm addicted to collecting / trying sights... Here's a few pics of one's I use regularly.

i just went from factory glock night sights to ameriglo one dot fronts and black out rear becuase i went the rmr route. its definitely a "cleaner" look when you aim. the distraction isnt there with the rear sight and just makes you draw from feel, from repetition. you stop worrying about trying to line up the three dots to just drawing by habbit.

I use Dawson adjustable fiber optic sights now on my carry guns. Much easier to focus on a single plane. On my G34MOS, I run a black front. I don't see much use for night sights for things G19-sized or larger since they will all have a U-boat on them anyhow.

I've been running the Ameriglo T-CAP sights since they came out with the Dave Spaulding serrated rear sight. I really like the setup. The bright orange square just really pops and comes on target quick.

Mstarmer - that is a great pic. Wish I had seen that ages ago before dumping a ton of money into sights I ultimately didn't stay with.

Trijicon HD & the Ameriglo FBI contract sights are the way to go. I like the Trij HDs for shooting suppressed with my Ospreys since they are a bit taller but the Ameriglos are pretty damn good too. I have either Trijicon HDs or Ameriglo FBI sights on all my Glocks except my 43 which has a squared off rear sight instead of the U.

I'm a big fan of 10-8 "U" notch sights. I'm trying to get used to the Ameriglo Pro (not FBI model) sights that came on my G19, and while I love the bright orange outline on the front, I still prefer the 10-8s on my 3rd gen 19. I'm not ready to go the optic route, yet, but I may with a Gen 5 34, just because.

Like shoes, handgun sights are a very personal choice and there is nothing out there that is the best for everyone.

Over the years I've used a lot of different handgun sights. My carry guns have always had night sights of one variety or another and always will. Most standard night sights are good at night, but I find them to be just okay during the daylight.

As my once perfect see-close vision has slightly deteriorated I started using brighter sights. I love the Truglo TFO sights and have them on all my Glocks. They are good during the day as well as good at night. The Trijicon HDs are excellent with the large front orange dot for day or night. But they have very annoying sharp edges on the rear that is simply inexcusable. The fiber optic sights on several of my handguns are also excellent. I find the luminescent sights on a couple of my handguns are great for daylight shooting, when most of us do the majority of our shooting. But I don't use them on my carry guns since they are not good at night.

I do not agree that "there's a growing consensus" that there should be a plain black rear sight and a bright front sight. But, if one like that setup then one should choose and use it.

I also do not think a three dot sight is "busy" in any way. It's probably the most common factory sight so a lot of people are using it. But if others don't like it then they should use something else. It's all just personal choice. The TFOs on one of my Glocks with a yellow front dot and green rear dots is really hard to beat for an all-round sight for me. Good in daylight and great at night.

Thankfully, we are fortunate to have a wealth of choices in handgun sights. Choices are always good.

I have been using the LAV Wilson Combat green fiber optic sites on my Gen 4 glock 19 and the only issue is I think I’m switching to the red fiber from the green. I was hoping the green would be easier for me to pick up, but those Hackathorn front sites have me thinking otherwise.

I have Dawson adjustable sights on my primary carry Glock 19 right now. I'm definitely a fan of the blacked out rear and fiber optic front sight. On full-size or compact pistols (G19 or larger sized), I'll always have an X300U or similar, so I find night sights to be unnecessary. On small pistols like my PPS M2, a G43, or a shield, I'd run night sights because I'm not running a white light or IR illuminator with a laser and/or red dot (if I have NODs).

I have HDs on several Glocks (7 IIRC?) I also have FBI sights on my 19.5. IMO the FBI are better than the HDs because they have less sharp edges than the HDs.

I’m a fan of the 10-8 f/o front and blacked out rear but for my 19x I’m going to try out the overwatch precision sights.

I run Trijicon HD's on most of my pistols these days, but with a little bit of a twist. I dug out the orange with a pick and filled it with white vinyl fishing lure paint. This provides with with a very large bright white front dot with blacked rears. I no longer prescribe to the night sights are required mentality as during real use I can not remember ever needing them. With a weapon mounted light activated in low light or no light you can not see the tritium and any other time there is too much ambient light for the tritium to be visible. I run blacked out rears with a white dot on the front on my pistols with RMR's. I have tried orange and green in the past, but my eyes still pick up the white better for some reason.
