The Florida state office responsible for conducting national background checks for concealed weapons permit applicants failed to do so for more than a year, according to a state investigation reported on Friday by the Tampa Bay Times.

Beginning in February 2016, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services did not conduct the checks because the employee in charge of the procedure was unable to log into the necessary FBI federal database.

1) Florida.

2) Why do we have these laws again? What's the point of laws "to protect us" if the government agencies/workers completely ignore the law?

In the case of Florida it's because too many tards couldn't responsibly open carry when it was briefly an option. Not saying I agree with the outcome, but that's what happened.

I assume that ccw licenses were issued without the check over that period. What a mess.

Small issue, 291 who were disqualified initially received their license and it was later revoked immediately after the mistake was found, the worker who failed to do her job was fired. I’d classify this as fake news.

Now we have a lawsuit for NICS denials, this is long overdue! For years, my 4473's were ALWAYS delayed, sometimes weeks. Finally went through the UPIN #, process it isn't the goose who laid the golden egg, but certainly is better than not having one.

“Today we filed suit against the Attorney General, USA and the FBI for more NICS denials,” Stamboulieh Law, PLLC, announced in a Tuesday press release. “After it was reported that the FBI stopped processing firearms denials in early 2016, we filed a FOIA [request] for that information. It was recently received.”
