Taking my time and putting together my first custom build. About halfway done...gonna be awhile getting it done altogether. In the meantime, about the only thing Im unsure about is the free floating hand guard & flash suppresor/brake.
Im not cutting corners on this...but i do not need nor want some expensive HG. My only requirements are:
1. Lightweight & 15".
2. Able to take a front sight & bipod.
3. Im going with Magpul furniture and adjustable stock in Stealth Grey..so hopefully one in that color or very close.
4. Free floating, of course.
Wont be putting a light or anything else{besides scope} on the gun.
Also- whats an effective muzzle device that wont affect accuracy? Probably dont need a brake on a 20" gun..so any advice on a FS?
If possible, please provide links to any recommendations, and I thank yall in advance!

Zev wedgelock handguard. Unless you have a specific reason not to get an A2, get an A2 flash hider.

I checked those out...nice...but WAY more than Im wanting to spend on a HG. As for the A2 FH...that is one of my top 4-5 picks.
Thanks for those ideas, brother.

You don't want expensive, you aren't cutting corners, and you would prefer it to match stealth gray.

Why not just list what sort of ballpark you are looking at paying. Otherwise we are just guessing at your budget.

ALG is having a sale right now.

The cheaper, minimalist option:
15” EMR V0-E - Black - $45
https://algdefense.com/15-ergonomic-modular-rail-v0-e-black-blem.html

Or to fit your color choice and other requirements:
15” EMR V2 - Gray - $144
https://algdefense.com/ergonomic-modular-rail-v2-m-lok.html

At that price, either one is hard to beat, in my mind.

When it comes to flash hiders, I’ve been most happy balancing cost with the Strike Type 89 or the standard A2. I have a BCM something-er-other and don’t realize a benefit over the aforementioned two.

Fair enough...Id like to keep it around $200-ish...give or take, if possible.

EXCELLENT suggestion my friend, thank you!

ALG seems like it should be about the best deal around. Slap a railed section underneath for a bipod if you choose to use one, and you are all set.

This is my suggestion as well.

If an A2 is on your list look at FCD's 6315 (http://www.forwardcontrolsdesign.com/6315_p_76.html)

Better jump on this quickly, their rails are burning out of stock, or the blems are for sure.

For a muzzle device on a precision build I would get the Smith Vortex G6A4.

I have a gray ALG 15" V1 MLOK and 12" V2 MLOK rail (2 uppers) on a rifle with Magpul stealth gray stock, pistol grip and rail covers. I think the color match is as good as you will find.

I am quite happy with my rails, but I would suggest the ALG V3 with the full length pic rail as well.

I use a Magpul MLOK/sling stud adapter to attach my Harris Bi-pod.

Thank you for that info Andy...I was wondering how close a match colorwise those two were. Could you maybe post some good clear pics of that?

I dont have a specific rail suggestion for you but I highly recommend that you buy a very stiff rail. My BCM precision build came from the factory with the KMR rail. I was able to induce flex in the rail while loading the bipod fairly easy. When I switched to the Geissele SMR Mk1, that is currently on it, I noted that the rifle shot more consistent. Whether the rail flex induced accuracy issues with the rifle or made me more inconsistent as a shooter, I dont know.

You don't need a break but I would at least look at a bcm comp. Or a full on brake. I shoot in matches with mine and they definitely help with follow up shots. Even with a heavier profile 20 inch barrel. On the note also look at white oak armament barrels there great value and extremely accurate

I'm not much of a photographer, but here is the 20" rifle.

Personally I don't think the ALG/BCM/Magpul grays match very well at all. I have all three on a rifle. I'm not changing it because I don't care.

Yes, the ALG gray seems mote like a Titanium gray...the Magpul is much lighter, to me anyway.
Anyone know if there is an aftermarket paint that'll match the Magpul gray?

Aluma-Hyde II from Brownells is only about $14 a can and it's an epoxy so it's pretty tough.

I agree that the ALG and Magpul are not an exact match, but they are closer than ALG and most company's gray from what I have seen. I also agree ALG is more of a titanium look.

The beauty of painting the rail is that it opens up your options, instead of trying to find the perfect rail that also comes in gray.

I agree 100%..with me its ALWAYS function first..everything else a distant second....if I found the perfect rail and it was tit pink, Id get it, cause as you say
I can always change it.
