Hey Guys,

How can I check if someone is currently serving in the military? I have a friend that I believe is being scammed and this guy is feeding her a sob story and she's sending him money. What information do I need?

Why doesn’t she just stop sending him money because he’s a phaggot? Why does it matter if he’s in or not? Phaggotry is phaggotry.

Unfortunately she's not listening to reason. She's too emotionally invested.

Wish I could help but I've never been in the military so I wouldn't even know where to start. That's probably my biggest regret in life is not serving my country. But I try to make it up the best I can by buying a military member's food when I can and at least thanking them for their service every chance I get. Fakers just piss me off...

So she is involved in a long distance relationship with someone you think might be a loser??? What difference does it make if he is serving or not??

If she is not listening to reason what makes you think exposing this guy as a fraud will make any difference in her investment?? Your best advice to her would be... I think you are getting forked and don't call me for help if you get forked.

It sounds like you might be pretty emotionally invested yourself. Most friendships like you have with her...they want you to be supportive, not interventional. If you expose the guy as a fraud, you are the one she's likely to be mad at.

It's actually my wife's friend. She was asking if I could find a way to prove the guy's a fraud.

I dont think there is anyway that just anyone can verify ones military service. Im not sure the police even know if they pull one over for speeding, until the service member produces an ID and tells them so in hopes of some leniency.

That said, based on experiences during my army years...the only soldiers that dont have money or more correctly so damn little money that they beg it from someone are either married lower EMs or shitbags. Often one and the same if theyre soliciting funds from an distant female.

If hes lying, which would my initial impression of the scenario, then he is of course a shitbag.

If he is actually in the service, the likely hood of him having it so bad that he requires the outside help screams "trouble ahead, turn around!" silver tongued shitbag thats shitbagged himself into a corner and looking for the next vine to get himself to safety on before his latest shitbagging lands him back in the 1st Sgts office.

I can tell he's a total shitbag from the whole situation. Dude's "stationed in Nigeria."
He needs money for a sick child. Wife died from cancer not too long ago. "Lost a rifle, during a fire fight." And the army is making him pay for it.
All kinds of other bullshit.

Tried to google any websites that can check service records, but I'm coming up empty.
Can't seem to get on this website. https://scra.dmdc.osd.mil/

Don't do it. No one will thank you for it.

tell your wife to cut ties and find a new friend IMHO :) life is to short to have friends like this

sorry if that sounds harsh but IMHO folks that are that stupid will end pulling your wife into something some day

Definitely a scam. Ive taken several reports for very similar stories. It would be very hard to actually "prove" he is a scam to her, but she is definitely getting scammed. Maybe have her google "deployed soldier scams" or something like that and she can read about other people who were in the same type of "relationship".

It sounds like your wife is clued in that this is not kosher. The chick sounds like she is a little bit off. Maybe a good time to use this as a wedge to get your wife to dump her as a friend.

What is it with chicks? Your wife’s friends thinks she can fix the situation for the deployed soldier. Your wife thinks she can fix her friend.

One of the best days of my marriage (going strong at 24yrs) was my wife realizing she can't fix everyone and it was o.k. to cut ties with dead weight friends and family.

Does the military really make you pay for a rifle if you lost it in a firefight?????

Statement of charges after a brief investigation proves you were negligent and yeah, they can charge you for almost anything you lose or break. Usually this only applies if there was some asshattery going on.
Rarely used anymore and it's a shame that it isn't.

How so?
I would guess it is all in how something is investigated.
I've seen some people do some really stupid negligent stuff, I don't have a problem taking their money in those cases.
In this case however, I'm 99% sure She's getting scammed.

Yes, your wife's friend is likely getting scammed.

As for the Report of Survey on lost equipment, I had a troop I took to Iraq with me. Making a long story short, we were on an Army tasking and got reissued every piece of kit before we left, basically doubling our load. Our leadership worked it out to have the extra stuff shipped back to our home base, of which, we all shipped the original kit including helmets, vests, load carrying equipment, unneeded personal kit, etc stuff home. Apparently, the Traffic Management Office in Fort Dix/McGuire AFB sucked big donkey butt and got a bunch of bags mixed up. One of hers (along with three others) went missing, however, hers was one that had her extra kit and an Interceptor vest inside.

The Report of Survey found her "negligent in the care and custody" of the item even though we all were instructed to send the extra stuff home that way. In all likelihood, the item was mistakenly sent to another base, but it was never recovered. Unfortunately, we only had verbal orders for what we did and the case investigator charged her the $1,300 to replace it despite the leadership making statements supporting her. Basically, the final report said "young troop should have carried said item to theater even though not needed to ensure proper chain of custody" or some such nonsense.

Most of the time it works, but sometimes it doesn't. Not the only case, just one that popped out at me.

My thought as well. Soon he’ll ask for her account number to “deposit a large sum of money the army gave him”.
