Nine people—including a 9-year-old girl—have been shot in the Toronto neighborhood known as Greektown, authorities said.

The gunman has been killed. Authorities said it is too early to determine if there is a terrorism link...

Prayers for the injured and their families. Cringing, for the inevitable spin.

Can't wait to see how they explain Canada's heavy restrictions, and yet crime STILL happens - & how they misapply this event to the American context.

I'd guess Canada enacts a handgun ban.

They're probably praying they can trace the gun to a U.S. dealer.

How might it have been different if the little girls father had a carry permit.

No system is perfect, but a lot of "public mass shootings" get shut down as soon as they start which is why they happen in "gun free zones" like schools.

There are several videos out of people filming the shooting from their apartment windows. What a bunch of helpless mopes. All I can think of is how quickly one could have stopped the killing had they had a rifle and the will to use it. Even grandad's old 30-30 would have done the job.

From the link in post #6:
"Over the past weekend, Toronto police deployed dozens of additional officers to deal with a recent spike in gun violence in the city. The city's mayor has previously said the city has a gun problem.

"The mass shooting comes a few months after the driver of a van plowed into pedestrians on a Toronto sidewalk, killing 10 people and injuring 14. Authorities have not disclosed a motive in that incident."

City has a "gun problem," but a van recently killed 10 people. Critical thinking, it's a thing Mr Mayor.

Toronto Councilor Paula Fletcher told CP24 she was told the gunman was emotionally disturbed.

"It's not gang related. It looks like someone who is very disturbed," Fletcher said.

Councilor Mary Fragedakis also said she heard the gunman was disturbed.

So if all these elected officials knew he was a nutjob - and getting a handgun in Canadia is a bigger PITA than America... HOW did he get a handgun?!?!

Same thought as the people that filmed the two guys in Paris from their roof top. The 9mm, 556, 762 and slugs I’d have reigned down on them....

It is interesting that a lot of the Twitter comments from Toronto people are about the increase in gun violence. This and the recent mass shooting in Australia- the shootings in Paris; but its the guns and NRA, sure.

So the shooter???

Every news source has something similar to this shit:

Officers confronted the suspect, who was identified only as a 29-year-old man from the Toronto area...

Reminds me of the German knife attack last week. "Attacker was a German citizen" . . . by way of Iran.

Damn Mormons!

C'mon, it's customary to blame "Amish" for the various snackbar attacks.

Seriously though, I don't like those euphemisms - they are used because the speaker and intended audience know it's not that group, but over time it will come to be an association in people's minds, no matter how much the logical side of the brain would sneer at it. Most "thinking" is empirical, not logical, and if you associate two words even in humor it will start to be a belief.

Don't believe me? What do Coke and polar bears have in common?

75% of you are currently picturing anthropomorphic polar bears drinking Coke from glass bottles while basking in the starlight of a calm polar night.

It's a damn shame and my hopes and prayers go out to both the victims and the Canadian gun owners who will no doubt have to deal with the aftermath.

The mayor says "Why does anyone in this city need to have a gun at all?"

I say the answer is self evident.

Canadian authorities identified the gunman who killed two people and injured 13 others in a lively Toronto neighborhood Sunday night as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, whose family claimed had suffered from "severe mental health challenges."

That really will be the million $ question. Didn't think there was any legit process for getting a permit for all but the connected, similar to say NYC. I figured he found an illegal source. Blaming it on the US in 3..2..1...

I did a quick internet search (google) and came up with this, seems pretty easy to go through the process to buy a firearm including handguns:

http://www.howtogetagun.ca/

Although that site indicated that obtaining a carry permit is almost impossible, can be done, but extremely difficult.

Well color me surprised. If that's accurate, not as difficult to obtain a basic license in CA as it's made out to be. Getting an AR, or CCW, etc another matter, but nothing as bad as some countries to be sure.

Trudeau’s comment on the Toronto shooting. Where is the condemnation that erupts when GOP people express ‘thoughts and prayers’?

My thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible tragedy on the Danforth last night in Toronto, and may the injured make a full recovery. The people of Toronto are strong, resilient and brave - and we’ll be there to support you through this difficult time.

Just thoughts, not even prayers.

Just thoughts, not even prayers.

The strong, but not so strong as to be troublesomely masculine, non-gender-specific thoughts to all peoplekind and/or sentient nonpersonkind (but without implying that group identity is necessary for individual worth).
