Who ya got heading into this year? It's been quite the offseason. Durkin all but out at Maryland, Urban Meyer still on "admin leave" at Ohio State, major coaching changes in the SEC... It's going to be interesting starting out.

Oh yeah - and Alabama.

Weird tangent, I know, but if you're an Ole Miss fan, you MIGHT wanna pick another team. And in about a half hour or so, another school, too.

Rock Chalk..Jayhawk..KU.. Long time season ticket holder worked for them for over 30 years.. Stuck with them through thick and thin, mostly thin. Nice thing about losing season upon losing season is little things get you excited, and, you end up with pretty good seats if you hang in there.

I predict this is Beaty's Swan Song if he doesn't coach the Jayhawks to two wins, at least one over a conference foe. Jeff Long, the new AD, has all but said Beaty is going to have the full year, but after that who knows.

I'm a huge Clint Bowen fan and felt they should have brought him back and made him the head coach when Turner Gill left in 2011. Then they missed another chance when Weis left four games into thei 2014 season.

Maybe if things don't go Beaty's way, Bowen will have his chance.

FSU baby!!!! I hope the new coach pick works out (screw you and your $75 million Jimbo Fisher) and the QB Francois stays healthy this year, that young backup stunk it up last year, big time. Sure, he has a full year experience now, but my confidence in him isn't there yet.

I ask because the Cowboy cheerleaders seem a little shop-worn and 81 has that shifty porn star look about him, plus the 'stache. At least he isn't wearing black socks.

That was a close one, and my hat's off to Washington for coming down to the deep south, and playing us the very first game. Nobody else has the balls to schedule top 10 matchups in the very first week, and I hope those that do take these risks get some kind of reward for doing so. This has cost Auburn dearly in the past by playing highly meaningful games to start the season...last two years we opened with Clemson.

If Gus can stay on his meds, and let his coordinators do their jobs....we might have an exciting season this year. That said, Gus just kills me with his mental play calls.

At any rate....get some haters:cool:

So does #1 Bama opening with #3 Florida State in Atlanta last year or #2 Bama opening with #8 Michigan in Arlington in 2012 count as having balls?

You going to be even more butt hurt when Okie State blows your chances of getting into the playoffs this year?

With the win over West Virginia yesterday, it diminishes OU's overall strength of schedule, making it more likely a one loss Michigan or Ohio State gets in as the #4 seed.

I'd likely expect a game of something like 84-77 or something.

"What is this defense thing you speak of...?"

I would also keep my eye on the coaching carousel if I were you. Little birds might have been saying someone's whispering in Riley's ear about the Dallas Cowboys.

Basically, it's coming down to talent. He's been recruiting well, but the talent hasn't really developed yet and after Murray leaves, he really doesn't have a superstar to back him up. I'm not sure I follow that train of thought since he's always done a good job of developing talent wherever he's been starting all the way back to his ECU days.

I just think he's a bit young for such a job myself. And Jerry Jones isn't the easiest boss to work for.

I agree with those four teams being in the playoffs in those spots. However, it wouldn't surprise me if/when Ohio St. beats Northwestern, the playoff committee will take them, even with their 29 point loss to a non-ranked Purdue over Oklahoma with a 3 point loss to a ranked Texas.

#4 SHOULD be Ohio State. But the Chuckle Heads will say Notre Dame because they have a huge fan base and bring in a bunch of money. You see they played this weekend and ACTUALLY Won their conference. I would not be so sure. Both UGA and Bama looked like shit today..... And don't say it is because two great teams were battling it out... That is BS. Alabama had a super easy schedule this year and the only reason that they are #1 is because the CFP people keep ranking shitty SEC teams to make their victory look better.

We certainly didn't get beat by a 3 loss team...lol tOSU should be watching from the sidelines just because of that! Simple, the SEC is a self kicking ice cream cone. It the logic is that Bama is good because it plays SEC teams. That is it. That is assuming that the SEC is good. Perfect example, Arkansas, Missouri, and A&M. They were all doing very poorly in the Southwest/ Big 12 and now they are getting nationally ranked as a crappy team. This year Missouri is ranked only because the beat a shitty Florida....... really? The University of Cincinnati is 10-2 and did not even go to their conference Championship game and yet they were not ranked.

SEC teams with bad records are records are ranked because they played other SEC teams and won........ really?

It is not just me:

ESPN owns the SEC network and makes money off the SEC if they do well. To do well the over promote them to give them a better change to get into he to 4. They showed their hand when LSU played Alabama in the National Championship game backing 2012. They killed the BCS as it was apparent to even SEC fanboys that something was wrong.

How's Bama's strength of schedule shittier then the rest?

Bama played Texas A&M, LSU, Miss St., Auburn, Georgia.....and the Citadle! ;) They killed everyone except UGA. So they have not played a team from a power 5 conference yet this year other than the SEC....

Clemson played Texas A&M (won by 2) (and A&M is not doing very well this year at all, only 8-4.... yet they are ranked because they are in the SEC), NC St (They are 9-3 and not ranked? Maybe because they are not in the SEC and lost to Wake Forest). and Va. Tech(Had to schedule a game with Marshall to even become bowl eligible) almost lost to Syracuse.

Notre Dam played Meatchicken??? Assuming you mean the very overrated Michigan that can't pull off a conference championship if it was goiven to them), Stanfordan 8-4 team that has been struggling all year, Northwestern(oh ... the BIG 10 team that got to play in the conference champ game because all of the rest of the teams in their division werehoriable this year and Syracuse (Have only played 2 ranked teams this year and lost to both of them....and PITT, a non ranked team that got to play for the ACC championship.....What does that say?. They struggled against Vanderbilt, Ball State, Pitt, USC, most of which are not even bowel eligible. Their power wins were against VT, Navy, Wake, and FSU.... need I say more?

Oklahoma played Army (won in OT....to Army)(who is 9-3, a record that would get hem in the top 10 if they were in the SEC like that powerhouse Kentucky...LOL(, Texas (twice) and W. Virginia. (The big 12 has to play all of the team in the conference. It is only possible to have 1 team undefeated. Unlike some conferences that cherry pick the teams they play to keep a good record.

Ohio St. played Penn. St., Mich. St., lost to , squeaked by Nebraska, beat Maryland in OT, Meatchicken and Northwestern. Yet they won their Conference that many are saying is the hardest in the FBS today.

See commits below in RED about the Powerhouse Notre Dame and their massive victories.......

So yes, OSU should be in that #4 position over Notre Dame because they Played and WON a conference The majority of the teams that Notre Dame plays are from the ACC... yet they don't ever play the good ones. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24523690/espn-college-football-playoff-predictor

Who knows with this BS system. It is purely a popularity contest. I would not be surprised st all if they put UGA in at #4. They have to stack the playoffs so a overated SEC team can win. This system is just as bad as the BCS.

There needs to be a real Playoff. 6 conferences WINNERS and 2 wild cards for those teams that really earn it. But the wildcards would turn into a BS slot for the Fanboys( aka the SEC teams that they want to stack in Hope of a SEC Championship)

The worse part is that they only dropped UGA one spot. That right there is 100% reason that the BIG 10 needs to attack the CFP system. That is blatant BS. There is absolutely no reason that UGA...... with 2 losses should be ranked over the 1 loss BIG 10 Champion.

How about realigning the existing conferences into just 4 based on the geographic quadrant of the USA: NE, SE, NW & SW with Alaska going to the NW and Hawaii going to the SW? The 4 conference winners would then play each other much like today - 2 semifinal games and 1 national championship.

See about in red
Without even realizing it, your little red sections made my point that all the playoff teams played about the same strength of schedule. Good job! :sarcastic:

So Louisville isn't in a power 5 conference? It's not Bama's fault they sucked this year. As you might know, games are scheduled years in advance.

Bama has started their season's in the Saban era playing #9 Clemson in Atlanta ('08), #7 Va. Tech in Atlanta ('09), #8 Meatchicken in Dallas ('12), Va. Tech in Atlanta ('13), West Virginia in Atlanta ('14), # 20 Wisconsin in Dallas ('15), # 20 USC in Dallas ('16), #3 Florida St. in Atlanta ('17), Louisville in Orlando ('18). Played Penn St. their second game of the season in #18 ('10) and at #23 PSU ('11)….and won every one of those games!

As far as the Big Can't Count (12) Conference teams having to play everyone in their conference, that's ONLY because they don't have as many teams as the other conferences....plain and simple. The Big Can't Count (12) Conference should have never been allowed to have a conference championship game without having the previous required 12 team minimum. The NCAA MADE the ACC expand to at least 12 teams in order for them to have their Conference Championship game. Guess the Big Can't Count (12) Conference is special. :p

Money isn't everything so to speak. Gundy had the chance to go to Tennessee for significantly more money; though more stress as the Vols tend to eat coaches up over the past decade. But rest assured, he was thinking pretty hard on that. Enough that Momma was talking.

I personally think he should have made the move myself. With the way he can identify and develop lower tier talent, he could have done better with a historically more prominent program like the Vols.

A lot of it is the decision making and the controlling aspect of his personality. He’ll cut his nose off to spite his face to prove he’s “right” when whatever it is obviously isn’t working.

I personally think Gundy peaked in 2013 when OSU was one game away. The money and facilities are there he’s simply out coached.

I'll disagree. You look at the recruit and class rankings for OSU and what they accomplish on the field. I think Mullet Man does far more with less than many coaches out there. He recruits against some big time programs and gets talent he can develop into his scheme. And does pretty well at it.

There's a reason he comes up as a candidate in far more coaching searches than most other coaches. And it's not because of his charming personality and cute press conferences.

Just depends on what one expects from their program. With him, we experienced as close as we will be to legitimacy in 2013. That and he can’t beat OU to save his life.

If not content with just “better than we’ve always been” Gundy is great. If desiring more, he’s a headache as he has been to Boone.

Nah it’s about recruiting. He has OU and Texas to deal with. Also Like all big 12 teams (even OU), he’s fine if he has a good QB. If not, forget about it in this league.

Although I agree with your personality comments.

Urban's win at any cost attitude is the very thing kids don't need to learn.

I've got a lot of friends and some family that went to Auburn. I'm originally from Alabama too, but did not go to college in Alabama. I live in Tennessee now and I'm glad they suck, I actually hate them more than the barn. Anyway, when you are born in state you are basically picked either Alabama or Auburn by your parents. It's 24/7/365 in the state of AL, no other sport matters. And the hatred runs DEEP for some... It's a little embarrassing some times as well, we (Alabama fans) are the worst fan base. I worked with a guy that was born and raised in Auburn, Al. He was a Tide fan. I never did ask him how or why he ended up here in Central New Yorkistan.

I went to junior high and high school with a kid named Wil Brown. He was a few years ahead of me. His younger brother and I were in the same grade. He went to Bama and was on the '93 National Championship team. He ended up getting in trouble and kicked off the team I believe the following season. Been a Bama fan ever since.

They did not start off playing well, it was like the rush defense didn't show up. But they adjusted quickly, sealed the edges, disguised some coverages. Alabama plays ahead so much they don't need to adjust, so they couldn't do it.

Yeah and once Tua threw that 2nd interception, the whole team seemed to fall apart. They had a few good runs here and there but that's it.

Bama's coaching carousel seemed to finally caught up to them last night. 20 coaches have left in the last 5 years. They're on their 3 offensive coordinator in 3 years. This years OC is taking the head coaching job at Maryland, so next season it'll be their 4th OC in 4 years.

I have no idea how they're going to address that. Not much you can do.

What a game. I certainly didn't expect my alma mater to win going away. I was expecting (hoping for) a one score win. I think once Bama got down so far, they didn't really know how to come back since they never really have to make those adjustments. The defense did well stopping our running game for the most part, but they just couldn't pressure Trevor, who is just a stud. If he has time, he's going to carve you up. I was very impressed with our OLine pass protection.

I imagine we'll meet again next year. Go Tigers!

It’s like working at Tesla or SpaceX. You do it for the next job. The only solution is to make it a better environment for coaches so that they want to stay, and pay them a salary that helps keep other schools from poaching them so easily.

They’re a victim of their own success now.

You're absolutely correct. However, you can pay OC/DC coordinators and assistants as well as you can, they'll still leave to take a head coaching job. Can't fault them for that.
