Do you think lapping the rings on this mount is really needed ?

Very doubtful that lapping LaRue mounts will help anything due to their tolerances. In fact, removing the hard anodize could be a detriment.

ETA: When in doubt, contact Mark LaRue directly.

I think you are correct. They are Verticle split rings, and I believe that verticle splits rings like these and the Warne maximas do not require lapping.

Vertically split rings sometimes require lapping if they weren't machined exactly right (radius is slightly off). It's just not as easy to do compared to horizontally split ones.

Lapping rings generally makes up for missalignment caused by the base or mounts that the rings are on -- as the LT SPR mount is a one piece rig and made so that the ring bores align perfectly, I can see no reason to lap the rings.

Also, the split base design of the ring ensures aligning without binding...
