ATF data undercuts claims that criminals in gun-controlled cities are getting the majority of their guns from surrounding states.
The left has long claimed that the failures of gun control in cities like Baltimore or Chicago can be chalked up to lax gun laws in surrounding states. But the ATF’s latest data defeats such claims.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the ATF was asked to trace the origin of 8,600 guns from crime scenes last year. The federal agency was able “to determine where nearly 5,900 of the firearms were sold,” and nearly half of those firearms were purchased in Maryland.

The ATF found that 47 percent of the 5,900 firearms were purchased in Maryland, where “assault weapons” are banned, “high capacity” magazines are banned, and where would-be handgun purchasers are required to submit fingerprints to state police for a registration database. And Gabby Giffords’ gun control group indicates Maryland has universal background checks for handgun purchases, too.

But even with these gun controls, nearly half the guns identified by the ATF were bought in Maryland.

The ATF also discovered “an average age of 38 for those in possession of the firearms” and they noted that “the firearms were bought an average of 12 years before the crime or reason for the trace.”

The Daily Wire reports that only 15 percent of the guns traced by the ATF originated in Virginia and seven percent originated in Pennsylvania.

My take: Another day, another domino....

Truth doesn’t matter when it comes to guns, only feel good legislation.

If truth mattered, we would take out suicide rates, and justified use of a firearm, out of the gun violence statistics.

And then remove democratic ruled cities under strict historical gun control, then we would see that’s guns aren’t an issue, and gun control only makes matters worse.

But why play a game of truths, we live in a time where emotions trump truth.

Only power matters to present Jacobins. They knew they were lying when they said it.

Nah, since when do facts mean anything?

Some anti-gun Kool-Aid drinkers attempted to tell me once that "gun violence" is so bad in Chiraq because the surrounding states have not implemented similar anti-gun measures. After bestowing upon them some logic that the average age and the felony backgrounds of the vast majority of these street criminals would prohibit them from legally purchasing handguns in the first place they fell silent. Then I went on to explain that CTA busses and trains don't run to other states so how are they crossing state lines to purchase said firearms, they changed the subject of the convo.

It doesn't matter. Logic is lost on those who use emotion as a basis for their principles and opinions.

They will just say, "see 21% came from neighboring states; that's 21% of the murders we could have stopped, and if we can just stop one it is worth doing something, think of the children..."

The mind of the vast majority of Liberals is weak, soft and based in pure emotion. Facts and logic be damned.

The language is confusing. So a state with full gun control BS account for approx 50%, where did they come from in Maryland, how did they get them? Theft? Straw purchases? Article does not seem to indicate. The where/how they get them in a state with socialist nonsense would be telling also.

My take is that they are predominantly guns that have been "out there" for a while--in other words guns that were bought in-state over decades and eventually surfaced in crimes. I reread it again and that's how I interpreted it.

There are a lot more guns out there than most people would expect, no body really knows, they're just estimating.
I helped an old guy clean a machine shop behind his house, we found three handguns he either didn't know were his or customers never came back for. He didn't have a clue.

You should have been with me at the ranch when my dad died. I was finding handguns stashed in empty five-gallon buckets and all kinds of things.
