Got my MagPul XTMs in FDE today, thanks Grant! :) Any advice on how to cut them to fit on my rail where the excess is that a whole section is not needed? I've seen it done on here but can't remember if it was mentioned how to do so. TIA

Dremel works wonders at low speeds in small, deliberate cuts. Don't try to stay on the plastic too long in one shot. It cuts clean and leaves no 'white marks' or melting. That's how I did mine.

Thank you! Is there a limit on where to cut so they will still hold together?

I used my pocket knife on the buthcher block and a whack with a hammer handle. Cut just fine, didnt notice any distortion at all.

I used a belt sander on mine, worked great.

Do they stay on ok if cut in half?

I have a couple that have been cut in half and they seem to be holding up just fine.

The one I cut in half has a little wobble that wasn't there before, but I doubt that it's going anywhere.

I have some on one rifle that wobble whole. It's on a DD Lite rail so I wouldn't expect the rail to be out of spec ... nor would I expect the Magpul parts to be , either. I'm probably just too picky.

I used a $10 miter box and a hax saw to cut the pannels. The miter box keeps cut straight and clean.

You can see just forward of the QD swivel on the 9 o'clock rail where I had to cut the XTM pannel. Compare the pannel on the 9 o'clock rail with the pannel on the 12 o'clock rail and you can see where I cut the XTM pannel.

I have cut several XTM pannels using the miter box and saw:

USMC03,

It was a pic of one of your rifles that I was thinking of. I want to do the same, feel in the gap just in front of the swivel point on my DD Omega and on either side of the VFG (when I have it attached). Where did you get that box? Lowes?

Sorry for the delayed response..... You can get a miter box at Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Ace Hardware, or just about any simular store.

Cheap and effective way of cutting your Magpul XTM pannels.

Jeff,

I never updated either. I picked up the box you pictured at Lowes, even came with the saw. :) Worked great! Thanks! :)

If anyone is doing some I would be happy to buy a few cut ones in FDE off of someone.
