I’ve found good reviews of the SOCOM’s accuracy potential. Anyone push the CCU to find out what it is capable of doing?

I have a Colt CCU. Put about 2000-2500 rounds down range through it since January.

Not sure exactly what you mean when you ask what it’s capable of doing, but I’ve been very happy with it. I’ve basically only shot the MagTech 62 gr lead and Wolf Gold through it with some 69 and 77 gr razor OTM. Consistent 1+ to 2 MOA groups. Optics have been a TA31 with the ACSS reticle and most recently I changed over to a Vortex PST Gen II 1x6. Not shooting much past 500 yds but good consistency on steel out to 500.

Overall it has been reliable and fun to shoot. It’s one of my favorite carbines.

Actually I just took mine to the range today, best of the day was a 10 round group ~1.25”. I was using a VCOG with relatively wide stadia lines, I’m sure better glass and a better shooter could produce better results. Most groups when I was doing my part were Sub 2 MOA.

The VCOG is a great optic for combat and hitting c zone steel. I do agree that it is not ideal for shooting groups but it is great glass. I do want to get a CCU either complete rifle or upper now that brownells s offering them. I would probably throw an ACOG on it and have it as a general purpose gun.

Haven’t pushed mine, it’s relgated to m193 and a couple hundred yards.
I get consistent <2 MOA with IMI m193 and irons (BUIS) or MRO.

I don't have a CCU or a SOCOM barrel but I went to the range to re-zero the iron sights on my 1999 manufactured Colt 6520 at 100yds today and got some pretty decent results, including a 1.75" group with Federal XM193, and I have some pretty bad eyesight. I don't think I see well enough to do much better with iron sights at that distance.

I keep hearing that the current Colt barrels are pretty accurate and it seems as though they were pretty decent back in 1999 too.

You don’t have ether but you are posting on the subject?? Come on man, don’t waste space.
I have both and I have found the 14.5 a little more accurate. About 1/2 in better over a 2 or 3 groups. 6960 is a thinner barrel so it’s to be expected.

What kind of accuracy are you getting with your 6960? And what type of ammunition are you using if I might ask. I ask because for what I would use the light weight 6960 for, there is such a thing as accurate enough. Especially for a trade off of the lighter weight barrel.

Federal Fusion 62 or Mk318 SOST Mod 1. 14.5 socom barrel 1-2in groups. Usually 1 1/2 average. 6960 is close to that but starts to spread out quick.

Not to derail the thread, but what’s your source for the Mk318 SOST?

I work at Federal Amunition so I have access to these loads.
