View Full Version : Next Generation Squad Weapon color
As far as the finish for the NGSW, the document states:
"...reduce visual detection via a neutral non-reflective, non-black color not lighter than Light Coyote 481 and not darker than Coyote 499."
Is this similar to the M17 finish?

What I find interesting is contractors are tasked with developing a new rifle and new auto rifle and a new cartridge utilizing Government provided 6.8 millimeter projectiles so they won't be limited to a 6.8 SPC case. I would really like to see what the provided 6.8 mm bullets look like.
Attachment 3 has the ammo specs but is not attached to the document you have to request the data.
Ammunition Data
- General Purpose, XM1186, Drawing XX
- Surrogate, Drawing 13072652
- Design Consideration Data

This sounds like the best solution to an optimized firearm for general issue as well as the squad automatic rifle.
Military gives a set of designs and outcomes for their bullet (the capability of penetrating Russian Manufactured body armor between 0-400 yards), the companies that take on the challenge can start with cartridge design for meeting the challenge out of a barrel length. The company can be in control of how long the cartridge needs to be to feed reliably at both semi-auto and cyclic full auto. The company can then develop the magazine and metal link that the cartridge feeds from. Finally the company can create an optimized rifle/carbine from the capable feed mechanism.

Does anyone have a source for a color swatch for DoD "browns".
I swear to moohamsandmitchmad I've seen pics of SCAR-H's with at least five different shades of brown.
Apparently Textron's entry in this program features 6.8mm case telescoped ammunition.

If so that would be cool.

So this is a unicorn and rainbows project. Smells like that Col’s retirement project to look at sub guns.

So they have a bullet and they want someone to design a gun and a round around it... While I admire the clean-sheet of paper freedom that entails, it seems that if you are going to replace 762 and 556 ammo AND get a new gun all at the same time- that seems a little ambitious.
