I wanted to build a clean no frills suppressed upper so I put an AAC Ranger on a 10.5" barrel and covered it with a 12.0 Hogue Overmold FF Hand Guard. The rubber overmolding was needed to keep the heat down since the HG is not ventilated. I wanted the gas block to be pinned for security so I just chopped off the sight tower, sling swivel, & bayo lug and smoothed it out until I was able to slide the HG over it. Since this is a range toy and for the occasional tac class I went without BUIS. The Aimpoint probably will never crap out on me and with 5+ years of battery life, I should be good to go for those afternoons of picking off squirls.

Drop some tan Krylon bombs on that tube dude!!!

What did you use to cut your FSB down with? I was going to do one the other day but all the stuff that came with my Dremel wasn't having it.

Josh,

I used some carbide cutting discs for my dremel. I went through about three wheels before the job was done. After I cut the tower, bayo lug, and sling swivel off, I took a belt sander, chucked it upside down in a vice, and finished the job with 80 grit and 220 grit belts. I was able to get a good rounded finished product with the sander. Cold blued it and reinstalled it. The entire job took about an hour. I was thinking of doing the HG in Tan but the ends are the only aluminum showing. The center section is Hogue rubber overmold which is needed because of the rapid heat build up. I could go with a vented HG and vert grip but I already have uppers like that & I wanted something real clean.
