Bolt catch spring problem?

I was cleaning my M4 and noticed that the bolt catch was a bit loose. There is a a lot of play involved, as in no resistance what so ever when there is not mag in the weapon. The retaining pin seems fine and in position. May be I lost the spring or buffer along the way?

I highly doubt that it was "lost" as your weapon would have had to have disassembled itself first. It is possible that it was assembled with substandard parts. If you are really concerned, get the correct punch, roll pin and spring and replace it. It's not difficult to do.
