New York gun bill requires purchasers to surrender social media profile passwords.

These background checks, according to WKBW, would require submissions that could go back in a person’s Internet history up to three years

We believe in your Second Amendment rights. But unless you waive your First and Fourth Amendment rights, we will not "grant" you your Second Amendment rights. See what we did there, tee hee? Once we've investigated everything you ever said to anyone, and your random thoughts, and checked your underwear drawer, well, we will probably "have to" deny you your Second Amendment rights, too.

Because when they find some old forum that you don’t remember joining, or some odd profile made on some site when you signed up for a coupon, they can deny you and charge you with submitting false information.

It is just a lazy man’s doxxing. Because you can be sure as hell that the database will be leaked.

Not that this entire notion isn't totally outrageous and invasive, but couldn't you theoretically just get around this by not using your real name on any social media profiles (which I already do now) and lying and telling them you don't have a computer or use the internet?
That's obviously really implausible that one would not be an internet user in this day and age but I'd think the burden of actually *proving* that you are lying would fall on the State.

The 4th Amendment has been shit on for decades:

*Random DUI (started as those)/license/registration checkpoints. Upheld by SCOTUS.

*Things found in a search warrant that weren't listed on the warrant as items being searched for (read the 4th Amendment and see that "...and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Found to be good-to-go because the officer found it in "good faith".

* The immense intelligence apparatus of the most powerful nation on Earth was used to spy on political opponents, with the subsequent "investigation" based off of blatant falsehoods (the Steele dossier).

Sorry, the 4th Amendment is becoming a thing of the past. It is downright criminal as well as pathetic.

They should just come out with a "offer may not apply where prohibited by law" disclaimer for the Constitution.

Doesn't Hawaii make it so that you have to have a doctors note for handguns?

We'll have to get a doctors note and hand over our racist jokes and financial emails to own a gun, but to vote you don't even need an ID....

They will review your social media, the web sites you visit and simply declare you mentally ill. I know that sounds far fetched now, but they will have the power to do this and it's simply to expedient for them not to use it.

Well the state can't just let hardcore Nazis (aka anyone with fairly mainstream center-right views) have guns. I mean, what sense would that make?
Meanwhile the prospective gun buyers with browser histories full of Antifa webpages and Twitter posts about killing ICE agents and assaulting people wearing MAGA hats will be ruled perfectly qualified.....

What they will do is 'Fife' you. Any whiff of right wing and they'll limit you so single shot firearms.

It is ironic that they more they push to do away with the 2A, the more they strengthen the argument that we need a 2A. It isn't that the 2A is unique in this attack. The 1A is under attack for 'hate speech' and all kinds of 'aggressions' and other social justice exclusions.

Actually, the way to fight this is that say that people in the 'clear' should be able to own machine guns, as in open the registry.

On a side note. As a RIDER what is your Uber rating? I don't know if I didn't know the ettique to start out, but it used to be lower, like 4.70. It is rising, so maybe I got some low scores early on? Most people I know say that they are close to 5? I think I'm a pretty likable fellow. I've asked recent drivers and they don't find me out of the ordinary. I ride it to and from the airport for work, so it isn't even like I've been overserved. How much an A-hole can I be If I'm concerned about my Uber rating, as a rider.

Just bring it up as these REd Flag and background checks laws are floated around. Who knows what our "Gun rights Score" (EEECCK) would be, based on people we interact with.

China by 2020 will have its complete system in place on all people to rate them and that rating will allow them privileges etc.. AND of course it will be used to punish them also if they do not support the communistic way with lower wages not being able to travel etc..

IMHO china did not come up with this alone with google and others working with them its a great test bed and will soon be coming here I am sure we already have some of the ground work in place

I know a lot of those things you see some folks doing like
if you are from the 90s you can name these 5 movies ? or can you do this or that kinda things are totally used to match your profile and dig more into you and profile you and suckers do them all the time !!

I am religious and used to think no way can some mark of the beast ever happen to stop you from getting food and so on ? but now with where we are I can see it happening
and if you are not religious just think of it the left will control the food sources what you are allowed to buy and so on same thing as the devil :)

It's already being done to monitor your driving, with a small percentage off your auto insurance. Progressive has Snapshot, Farmers Insurance has Signal, Allstate has Drivewise. All of these companies give you a tiny discount off your premium for allowing these things. Progressive's plugs into your OBD2, Farmers and Allstate use your Smart Phone.

The tiny price decrease isn't worth the invasion of privacy. I do think that at some point in the future, such connectivity will be a requirement when you purchase auto insurance.

I have also heard that you can be talking with someone via your Smart Phone, and the other person uses a Smart Phone as well, and if your conversation contains discussions about certain products or brands, when you use the phone later to access the internet, ads for those very products will pop up during your browsing. I have not seen it because I insist on using a Kyocera heavy duty flip phone, but the wife has experienced this on her Galaxy Note 8.

This has happened to my wife and I multiple times.

(Ready your tinfoil hats).

There are quite a few things that have shown up on adds or news articles that I've never once typed into the phone or mentioned during a phone call (this includes my other devices such as computers, tablets, etc) but have talked about at length with my phone nearby. I've tested this out as well and if you talk about something enough times within the vicinity of your device you will eventually get related adds or news articles popping up.

I've also had the voice recognition service come on by itself multiple times in a quiet room by myself, while having conversations with others, or watching videos online. Ironically enough it seems to activate most often when listening to firearm or political videos.

Creeps me the hell out..

Creeps me the hell out..I started noticing that sometimes if I talk about something I'll see commercials for it within a day or two. I know it sounds crazy and I have a hard time believing myself but it's happened fairly often to just chalk it up to coincidence.

I even made a comment once to a friend when we were talking about something. I said this will probably be on my phone as a commercial. Sure enough the next day it was!

EDIT:

Just checked my email and had a email from Amazon. I don't have an Amazon account and the last time I bought something there was a holster a few years ago. I've never received emails from Amazon before but now I get one and it's showing me printer ink specifically for my work printer. Something I don't order and have never looked for!

Certainly no internet forum or communications is safe from prying eyes; now we have to worry about prying ears - even electronic ears. I still contend that at some point in our future, all of our gun related activity will have to move underground. Any communication will utilize code words. We will have entered a dark age in the United States.

You can look at the surface of things like this, but I also look at the deeper, darker and longer picture. In some ways, this may just be a way for them to drive conservative people off of social media, or at least make people be more restrained in their support for gun rights. You can also look at the drive to reduce our screen time as a way to reduce our exposure to alternate media to the MSM and therefore tilt the control of the narrative to what they want. Less time spent online is less Shapiro, Rogan, Peterson and 'dark web' that we get. Add in gaslighting Trump supporters for their continued alliance with him.

All in the name of identifying mass shooters through social media and 'more healthy' screen time - which they legitimately can also be said to be doing.

The best lies are the ones that have some truth to them and are done 'for your own good'.

Specifically on the guns and social media- and red-line laws in general- this is why I've asked what is our solution to the issue of crazy people with guns. If we don't control that narrative, you end up with lefty answers that look at all of us, when there are actually only 10s or 100s of people that need have interventions per year. If we don't come up with a solution to crazy people with guns, they left will be more than happy to come up with their own solutions for us.

Sadly everything is being watched/recorded... I hope it doesn't come to this everywhere but sadly I think we are heading for it, New York will just be the first domino to fall. Then CA, IL, NJ and others will follow suit... Hopefully my state will be one of the last ones.

My boss orders office supplies. I used Amazon ONCE for a holster about 7 years ago. Yet I got an Amazon email for a sale on ink my work printer uses. And before anyone asks the printer doesn't have wifi or any internet capabilities. It's a simple "dumb" printer.

I absolutely hate googling something on my computer and then I put up my phone and while scrolling through facebook I see an ad for what I just googled earlier on a different device. Sadly everything is being watched/recorded... I hope it doesn't come to this everywhere but sadly I think we are heading for it, New York will just be the first domino to fall. Then CA, IL, NJ and others will follow suit... Hopefully my state will be one of the last ones.

yeah agree we are heading that way info is the gold rush of today for sure and sadly its happening ? I still use gmail and google apps and realize this is happening but I have a business and I do not post any political beliefs on those sites just here really and yeah they can tie it together with no issue but me buying a rifle if it gets down to this forum being read and me being denied we are already gone by that point

I do again think this is purely to see what is challenged and what they can get away with so a test to see if it gets struck down they will know where and why and then go around that and try again

and soon they wont need to bother asking it will become the norm and will be something that can easily be pulled up as a grade or some other factor that will be applied to us and sadly I do think that is coming quicker then we think
figure it just like a credit score if I say FICO you know what that is and soon enough not only our financial but our SOCIAL life will have a score but the tough thing will be is who determines this ?

...I have also heard that you can be talking with someone via your Smart Phone, and the other person uses a Smart Phone as well, and if your conversation contains discussions about certain products or brands, when you use the phone later to access the internet, ads for those very products will pop up during your browsing.

I started noticing that sometimes if I talk about something I'll see commercials for it within a day or two. I know it sounds crazy and I have a hard time believing myself but it's happened fairly often to just chalk it up to coincidence.

I don't play golf. I don't buy golf related items. I don't belong to a country club. In the last three years, I've played golf three times - once each summer, at a different club, as a guest playing in a group related to my job. The last time I played was this past summer.

I didn't post anything about my play on facebook - I don't have a facebook account. I didn't tweet about it - I don't have a twitter account. I do have a company supplied smart phone (iPhone) that I did have with me. When I got back home from playing this summer, I was getting popup adds for golf clubs (que Twilight Zone music).

I'd imagine the same metrics that enable my credit card company to call me to ascertain if I was the one who just used my card to buy something in the UK because it is outside my normal purchase area, also lets them (and whomever they share that data with) notice when you buy lunch at a golf course grill.

CC companies sell your info many of them have a database that advertisers/sales/stores subscribed to just for this !

Duck duck go for a search engine that doesn’t do all the ad stuff. I think as the privacy stuff gets more backlash, this search engine will gain more traction. I think they doubled their searches per day this year alone iirc.

If location is not disabled on an Android phone, Google will track you and target your advertising based on places you visit.

It's not too hard to disable some of the Google tracking and I use the Duck Duck Go web app.

Soon this will become the norm using the NSA to turn over your meta-data to the appropriate state agencies for prosecution. China is already building a social media point system for their citizens right now. Complain to much about the authorities or taxes and they just disappear your ass.

BINGO. That is what they are after. First it will be "voluntary" that you give them your Facebook and whatnot. Later the libs in Congress will attach a requirement to an omnibus crime bill that surrendering all your internet activity will be mandatory, and your NICS check will include your NSA meta-data. This will go hand-in-hand with the laws that pre-emptively cause your firearms to be confiscated if you are considered a "threat".

I'm all for identifying a threat beforehand, but the problem is in who decides what is a threat and what is not?

Have you ever stated online that Hillary Clinton should drop dead? Does that make you a threat?

Have you been a member of a forum that the MSM says is "racist"? Does that preempt you from owning firearms circa five years from now?

Things to think about.

Andy, you and Vegas mention Duckduckgo. I'm kind of curious about how it and have a couple questions, please forgive me if they are idiotic, I'm the next thing to a Luddite.

1) I notice a distinct difference in speed and results between my Yahoo home pages search and Google. I generally default to Google on my menu bar because I get tired of waiting for Yahoo and getting less useful results. If that makes any sense to you, will my results with Duckduckgo be close to Google?

2) I don't believe that any person, much less a business, is completely altruistic, so what's in it for Duckduckgo? If they aren't selling info, how do they make their nut?

Sorry if these are dumb questions :meeting:

Strips your meta data from the search.

IMHO its no where near google for niche type searches but its OK for general searches

what I notice though with niche type searches on google the political lean can be quite heavy so lets say were conservatives targeted by IRS might result with lots of no results rather then the truth (example did not test this) but the political questions tend to lean heavy with google vs others

sadly google still is best I do use duckduckgo some though as I want it to get better :)

but duckduckgo have not been at this as long the only way around a lot of this would be a good VPN and hide everything you do from your ISP and google and so on BUT if you use gmail and have an account its all tied together anyway

only way around most of this would be a good VPN (monthly fee type) which I might be doing this year I use a few free ones at times or mask IP etc..

And I refuse to utilize those sites. If you don't like it, I'll take my VPN and DDG myself to a competing web address. :)

As far as all this state sponsored Orwellianism, all you gotta do is not have any of it in your real name and deny it exists. What is the SAFE Act compliance rate, like 4%? And they think they're gonna be able to check everyone's social media back several years? LOL

There is a lot of speculation about how extensive this actually is or will become, but the goal is a "social credit system" like in China:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System

Of course, if you have guns your social credit score will be really low. You won't be able to use mass transit, hold certain jobs, live in certain areas.

Don't kid yourself that the libs aren't salivating on a backdoor gun grabbing program based on this.

Reckon both ya use android ;)
Common with them sadly
I will never use any android phone no way !Heres an interesting one.

My mom and sister went on vacation to Thailand. I never Googled anything about Thailand not anything about their trip. The only thing I looked up was their original flight from US to Hong Kong. I didn't bother with the second flight because by then it was 3am here. My sister sends photos via an app not owned by FB or Google. They left on Thursday. Today I started getting YouTube video recommendations for things to do in Thailand!
