CNN claimed that "the U.S. has the most mass shootings". The WSJ reported that "U.S. leads the world in mass shootings." Nearly every major media outlet and former President Obama said the same.

But the claim is based on just one study, and the author of that study, Adam Lankford, would not release his data to other gun reseachers in the field.

Economist John Lott argues that Lankford's study has many flaws.

Won't matter. Even if we had absolutely 100% irrefutable evidence that guns save lives every time they are used, the left would simply have a pity party for all the dead "would be murderers" whose lives were ended too soon due to gun violence.

Most of that mindset is rooted in the fact that most of the radical left and unstable individuals capable of engaging in terrible emotionally driven acts of violence. If they had a gun, the KNOW they would probably kill people and they assume everyone else is just like them despite assertions to the contrary.

I can't count the number of times I've heard some anti gun type say "If I had a gun I know I get mad enough to kill people so I don't want a gun" and when I explain they SHOULDN'T have a gun given their lack of self control and propensity for violence they roll their eyes and say "You know YOU'D do the same thing" and I'm always left thinking "shit...I have a gun right NOW...if that was true you and all your buddies would be dead."

I usually don't tell them that because they honestly cannot relate it it. They also thinks cops go outside every day looking for black people to kill and that black people only kill in the most extreme cases of protecting friends, family or livelihood (even if it's drugs). That the war on drugs is a diabolical white plot to kill black people and has nothing to do with trying to make life for everyone safer because drug addicts don't make life safe for anyone.

There are people who if they got their way would disarm all police officers but let drug dealers carry guns so that they could protect themselves from police officers who always target them out of racial hatred and nothing more.

Man, that's it, right there. Every time this comes up, that's my counter. If you want to get anecdotal evidence of the state of our republic, see what people's responses are to that - it's pretty discouraging.
