View Full Version : Is this a Genuine LE6920 Upper?

I'm tempted to snatch one of these up, but I've seen confusion before on whether some Brownells Colt products are from the LE6920 line or the farmed-out Expanse line.

https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/upper-receivers/ar-15-m4-assembled-upper-receiver-5-56mm-prod119878.aspx

It says that it's "similar to" the 6920CK upper, without the CH and BCG. Sounds like it's 6920, but nothing explicitly states that it is of the LE6920 line. Anyone have any insight on this?

Also, what are the chances I'd run into problems with a Colt upper different from the upper that came on my 6920 from the factory, such as tolerance stacking issues? I've also had my eye on a Colt 6920 SOCOM upper but wonder if I'd be less likely to encounter fitting issues with a complete rifle.

Interested to hear opinions, but I don’t believe the Expanse has the Gov’t profile with cutouts, while the referenced upper does.

It’s a 6920 upper sans sights, CH, or BCG. You won’t run into any issues unless there’s something wrong with the upper or your lower.

Their wording could certainly be better, but it is a 6920 upper. Check the Q&A section and Brownells verifies that it is.

Can you still find 6920s for $900? You will have $600 in the Brownell's upper by the time you put a BCG and CH in it. The complete lower would probably bring 5-550 and you keep the magazine and rear sight. Just sayin.

I can get a complete 6920 for $930 out the door, but I already have some spare charging handles and Colt BCGs to slap in there. I only have one carbine lower, though.

It never hurts to have a spare lower laying around waiting to grow into another rifle. Hell... I had a 10/22 takedown screw grow into another rifle!!

Can't argue with that logic.

Agreed, unless you can get it significantly cheaper $75 or more off with a discount coupon code/holiday sale.

It is Brownells... if it doesn’t check out, they’ll just take it back. Their customer service is legendary.

I don't see any reason to suspect that this isn't a 6920 upper. If Brownells states it is one (as they do in the description) then I have no reason to doubt it, as they are an extremely reputable company. I don't think its necessarily worlds best deal, I think you would be better off purchasing a complete 6920 (Magpul editions sometimes pop up as low as $800). I purchased an FDE cerakote 6920 for $700 a few months ago.

I bought one. Got around to checking yesterday, and Colt cage code is on both the upper receiver and barrel.
