I guess we could link every Forgotten Weapons video in their own threads, but the HK P7/PSP has such a cult following, at least in my house, I thought I'd post it here.

Still love it for the lack of controls. Wish it weren't so ass heavy when trying to carry it.

My question is if someone made a polymer framed new P7 clone, would people buy it. Lets say at a price point of $600.

Owned 14 at one point, now just back to my original M8.
Anyone want to buy an original Alessi SH for a P7M13 to help me fund a new PCC for USPSA?.

Honestly, it would probably be a totally niche item if it were make by "somebody."

If H&K made it, they couldn't keep them in stock, guaranteed.

If HK made a P7 with thumb mag button is have to have one. Maybe one of the higher capacity variants of they did not get thick.

I would love to find another in decent shape, but with prices north of 1500 and magazines (if you can find them) at 100+, not very practical. My M8 is pretty much a safe queen. I have heard rumor that a limited run may be forthcoming from HK, but I'll believe it when I see it

I had a nice collection of P7M8's and P7M13's all with DelFatti leather but just recently sold them all. They really are amazing firearms but I lost interest in shooting them and I'm not a collector. I do wish I would have held onto at least one P7M8.

The PSP inherently has such a small slide in terms of height and width and overall length for barrel length, an integral suppressor would be wicked cool. It is going to be a niche and expensive gun anyway.

If one must ask the price... Just make sure you're sitting down. Last one I saw in my LGS had a threaded barrel and the asking price was $2000.00 plus/minus. I suppose if you can afford a custom 1911 you can afford a P7M8.

I bought my P7M8 in 1996 for $600.00.
I was recently offered $2000.00 for it.
I have the box, Manual and carbon scraper.
I think I’m going to hold on to it for a while. I haven’t shot it in several years but it is still a really neat pistol.

I finally found a great one at a LGS last year P7PSP. Every time I bring it to the range, someone asks "What's That?" As soon as I get "HK" out they say I've always wanted one of those.

Walther uses a similar action in the CCP for about $300, but of course it's not the same.

I’ve had so many of these, I have lost count. They truly are my favorite handgun of all time, but hard to justify keeping them. I’ve always been lucky to find them fairly cheap(not recently), and someone always wants to pay me a lot more than I paid for it. What’s a guy to do?

If HK were to make the exact same gun as the PSP, but in a polymer frame, it would certainly be my carry gun, but as it is, 9 shots in a very heavy gun, just doesn’t make sense to me anymore.

My evil plan comes together...... mu-hah-hah.

What I like about them is that they peg the 'unusual' and 'useful', throw in some scarcity to amp the cool factor, plus it is an HK. There are a lot of odd guns out there. There are a lot of cool guns out there. Not many cool, odd and useful guns.

Frankly, it is about the only gun that Forgotten Weapons is going to profile that I have a shot at owning....

ETA: Frankly, they seem to be a fairly safe investment, as far as guns go.

The price of admission is steep for certain when it comes to the P7 series.
However, it really is a fantastic piece of machinery, it's almost like a clock that shoots. It's definitively not a burn 100 rounds through it in 30 min pistol, as mine is plenty warm after 3 mags..but they do have amazing triggers, very accurate, & mine have been staggeringly reliable. They do however require well thought out holsters..that short barrel, heavy grip combo makes holster selection extremely important.

I got lucky and found a P7 PSP a few years ago that had been refinished. I traded a Leupold CQT, that I got for free, and $100 for it. Fun little pistol. I had always wanted one because it was mentioned in a Dick Marcinko book I read as a kid. I just need a holster for it.

I had a PSP that I really liked, except for an annoying "tick" in the trigger pull. It was probably correctable but I never got around to it. During a gun poor period I sold it and always wish I hadn't.

If I were to run across one of these at a reasonable market price, I'd be hard pressed to keep myself from making it happen. :p

My favorite P7 story

And a word on 9mm ammo in a P7. The US Park Police complained that their P7s were jamming so HK bought 10,000 rounds of the ammo the Park Police was using, standard 115 gr., Remington 9mm ball, took a new P7 and proceeded to shoot the daylights out of it. It get very boring shooting 10,000 rounds all at once.

We were not shooting Remington 115 gr. It was Ultamax reloads in Remington brass that someone long before me ordered to save money. I still have many cases because you can’t get through a 50 round box without a kaboom. It was used as regular training ammo. I blew one of the grip panels off my issues pistol shooting the Ultramax.

I will say the M13 mags were picky. The follower rides in a grove in the mag body. When we dropped our mags on the ground during emergency reloads they were useless if you got a grain of sand in it.

As for the 10,000 round test, I would like to see how long that would take because of the heat and the carbon buildup on the piston. In a controlled environment the P7 was amazing. The average patrol officer that never lubes his pistol and shows up to quals with lint and donut dust caked around the firing pin collar would not get to 10,000.

I will say the P7 will continue to extract and eject with the extractor missing. Someone I was qualifying with launched their extractor during the qual course and didn’t realize it until cleaning their guns afterwards.

I sent all but a few of our M8’s and M13’s out for destruction a few years ago. David

I managed to pick one of the LEO trade in PSP guns years ago and had it refinished by Robar in Electroless Nickle. I don't shoot it very often but it is one of the few pistols I will never sell due to the "unusual and useful" attributes. It is just a unique piece I enjoy having around. A nice trigger and good accuracy don't hurt either.

The gun definately, in the world of odd and collectible guns, is a value leader- plus it is actually usable. You can show it to a gun new-bie who would see it as cool and alien, and you could shoot it in an IDPA match. Plus, it’s an H&K.

I have been shooting the M13 more often these days. Couple things that really stand out in my mind is that these pistols shoot incredibly flat and fast. Second is that the recoil seems to settle a bit once the piston is a little fouled. Any one else notice something similar?

I've owned a PSP silver slide for years. I don't know why everyone takes about needing the right holster. I just tuck it in my waste band or stick it in my pocket. This pistol was made for Mexican carry. If it wasn't for the blued finish on the frame and the 8+1 capacity I would still be carrying it today.

I think they are both Raven holsters. I carried my P7 just for a little bit about 10 years ago, so I am actually foggy on which one I liked better. The P7 is so butt heavy. The one with 'wings' I think I got and I remember wearing a bit because it fit OK, but loops and such would get discombobulated from time to time. Not sure if I ever used the other one, or if I scavenged the belt attachment for another holster.

Both fit pretty snug on my P7. The more standard one has a bit of cant to it so that the butt is more over the rest of the gun. The other is more straight up and down.

I think I have a Kydex/leather Hybrid holster too. Maybe. Or was that for a STI 2011 I carried after this. I went to extremes there for awhile.

If you want to try them, I can drop them in the mail.
