View Full Version : Oddball problem finding an endplate with sling slot

One of the oddities I've found as I try to clone a C8 is the slotted endplate--I started out with a search but came up dry, so I'm starting a new thread.

First, the Canadian endplates I need to mimic, courtesy of one of the guys at CanadianGunNutz.

The triangle one at top-left is hard to find even up there, and I've yet to see a "double slot" with the curves of the one at top right. That leaves a single slot, for which I'm considering the Vltor SASE. (GG&G's #1130 sticks out a bit far and is vertical rather than angled to match the rear receiver as the Vltor and Diemaco parts are.

Anybody out there in TV Land have any suggestions about where I should look to for a "that looks close enough even if not perfect," or should I stick with the SASE?

For your purpose go with the SASE-1 from Vltor.

What about the CQD plates?

What about the CQD plates?

Objectively it might have better function, but the point of this build is to cosmetically replicate Canadian "standard issue" as closely as possible with made-in-USA parts. Larry Vickers got a triangle endplate for his clone, but I'm not sure how.

i'm collecting parts for an L119A1 clone and am having this same issue. the pic below is the parts i've collected so far. the endplate in the pic is a steel airsoft replica endplate made by We Tech i believe. i was going to drill it and use the vltor endplate hardware to keep it from rotating. it's the best solution i've found so far short of finding a diemaco endplate.

FWIW: I had the one that's on the Top right of your picture on my first M4 years ago and I HATED it!

Dissembled my Buffer to remove the end plate, brought it to work, broke out my Cutting disc and removed (cut them Off) both Sling holders, then sanded smooth cleaning up the end plate
reassembled and could be Happier with what I did. :thank_you2:LOL

OH Yeah, I Hated it because, everytime I'd Charge my Carbine, I'd Hit my figure tips on the tops of those things =

You might contact these guys. They are out of stock but they may lead you in the direction of finding one. Not sure what would be involved to get it out of Canada>> http://www.nordicmarksman.com/Plate-Assembly-Ambi-Sling-Loop.html

Already checked--their government doesn't like export nor ours import, (this isn't a 922R part but it IS an ITAR one) and Colt doesn't allow Canadian commercial parts to be sold outside Canada as part of the build-license terms. Thanks, though.

You may want to try contacting GRSC Inc.

It's ashamed a simple die cut piece steel is import restricted by two governments. It's as stupid as a scope being restricted! Colt... that's even more ridiculous! Why would they give a rat's ass if Canada exports something they don't even sell stateside? Just one more reason not to buy anything Colt.

Found this, though it's lower and straight rather than high and arched:

Tried to find a contact for GRSC, and their website's apparently been gone for several years. I do know a company up there that makes repros of the Canadian "Hook" charging-handle latch, that I could maybe talk to... if it's not made by Colt Canada, Colt US has nothing to say.

I knew they made many different styles of end plates, so I was hoping they'd have something that would work for you. Their website does seem down, but I know I was on it about a year ago looking for end plates. Hopefully it will be up again soon.

Also, I found this from ODIN Works that, while nowhere near a perfect match for the Diemaco Triangle, looks like it manages to match most of its key functional features.

The choice is up to you. Me personally when I have my pick I will always opt for steel on any sling mounting point on my rifle. That is why I stand by the original point of going with the SASE-1.
