Here is an M1A S/N 3769 built with all GI Parts. I believe this is one of the receivers MR Ballance included in his sale of Springfield Armory that was completed in TX before the company was moved to IL. This was rarely shot and was a true safe queen.

UPDATE: I spoke to Mr Ballance today and he confirmed to me that my M1A, S/N 3769 is one of his Devine TX's Receivers. For $50.00 he will send me a letter of Authenticity. I may just do that.

I know almost nothing about the early M1As, is the receiver forged or investment casting?

I have an 80s vintage, unfortunately it's not mostly USGI parts and the receiver is investment casting, and it was my Dad's so I have to keep it. I keep kicking around the idea of doing a USGI build on an LRB receiver but just don't need another M1A that badly. Parts aren't cheap, LRB receiver isn't cheap and the build wouldn't be cheap.

Springfields are Cast Receivers. Here are some pictures of my Smith Ent. M21. It is a Forged Receiver. I is a true 1000 yard Rifle. It was built with all new in the wrap GI Springfield Parts except the bolt. I bought a TRW Bolt and a Krieger Heavy SS Barrel. It is double lugged and is glass bedded in a McMillan Kevlar Stock. I do have an M1A that was built by the US Army for the VP of Winchester Arms.

OMG that gun is awesome and in beautiful condition!!! Good lk and enjoy it!! Anything M1A/M14A is not cheap by any means. The market for unissued/NIW GI parts is huge but, of course, the supply is limited and finite. I recall GI stocks, both wood and fiberglass, that were cheap and plentiful during 90s, now they are a memory. While not in love with the platform, when I decided that I needed an example, I stocked up on any and all GI parts, assemblies, mags I could find. At the time Springfield was the only big name in town, as Norincos were banned and all the smaller manufacturers had QC/QA all over the charts. I waited for a while longer, then came across LRB and never looked back after my first GI M-14SA. It was quality from end to end. So much so I bought I shorter bbl version also a year afterwards. Again not a heavy user of the type but cant say enough good things about LRB and the M14SA line. There AR lowers are very nice also btw.
