Sometimes movies that aren't worth paying bucks to see at the theater are just great for a late night with the significant other or a six-pack of beer.

They don't have to be recent movies on your list, just ones you've seen recently that might not be known by most people.

My list of recent finds:

1. Dead Man Down

Great action movie with plenty of surprises. I don't want to give too many spoilers but it's a revenge flick with some genuine twists and turns. I usually have most movies figured out by the time the credits roll. This one kept me guessing for the most part. I liked this movie enough to want to own it on video. That doesn't happen very often, and the fact the movie has its quirks and is just a little bit different is what sold me on it.

2. Hostage

Bruce may be somewhat of a has-been, but if you enjoyed him in flicks like Death Wish and Die Hard you should like this one. It's a home invasion flick with some good suspense.

3. Blood Father

Mel Gibson takes on a drug cartel trying to kill his daughter. Decent. Don't expect it to be fantastic, but worth a look.

If I come up with more I'll post them. We try to catch at least one movie per week. Some are great. Some are okay. Some are awful. I'm avoiding the awful ones in this thread unless there's one so bad I think I have a duty to warn the public.

Operation Red Sea

I am told those weren’t blanks. Just a bunch of guys on Chinas death row.

Doc's Blood Father gets my vote too. I like Mel's crazy.

Recently T-34 has my attention. Fury has nothing on this film.

Looks great. One of my beefs with WWII movies is that the AFV's never look right. Either they mock them up from modern vehicles, or they try to build vehicles that look "mostly" right. This movie looks like the tanks are spot on.

I'm with you there. Not enough M4 Shermans so just use M48s instead. Ugh.....

Ill have to check out that "T-34" movie, fragments keep popping up on my youtube suggestions.

Along very similar lines I recently sat down one quite Saturday night and rewatched "The Beast" starting Jason Patric, a late 80s movie about a Soviet tank crew in Afghanistan and the Muj's chasing after them. Even better than I remembered it being, despite the presence of a Baldwin (Stephen)

Ive been in a very Armor mood lately

T-34 is not on netflix or amazon to stream. The only current source to purchase I found is on the bay dvd or bluray. Some of the best cgi action I've seen. Some of the action shots were ridiculous but still entertaining, the good outweighs the bad. There were $ thrown at this production for sure.

On YouTube, look up the Russian World War II mini-series/shows by Star Media. Some are very well done and almost rival Band of Brothers. Personally, I found the ones about women in combat roles to be absolutely fascinating in that regard.

Some of the titles are:

The Attackers - Russian combat pilots, women too

Battle for Sevastopol - Woman sniper. When war breaks out in 1941, Lyudmila joins the army, turns out to be a natural sniper & her impressive skills make her stand out. When wounds force her from the battlefield, she travels to the United States to press for a second front.

The Bomb - About Russian attempts to build a nuclear weapon.

The Dawns Here are Quiet - About a male sergeant who leads about a dozen female AA anti-aircraft gunners, but then they have to go out into the field & tried to kill or capture some German saboteurs they spot.

Night Swallows - (Yeah ... uhhh, don’t go there ... !) it’s about female pilots that fly biplanes at night on the Eastern front.

Soviet Storm - Long series about Operation Barbarossa (attack of Russia by Germany)

The Subversives - Espionage and saboteurs, etc.

Three Days in the Life of LT Kratsov - Platoon commander Lt. Kravtsov reports for active duty. Military ‘fate’ allocates for such lieutenants only 3 days of life, on average. During this time, Kravtsov should become the commander of his troops and lead them in a hopeless attack, to save the regiment coming to the rescue. The question is, can he survive in these 3 days?

2018's Den of Thieves . . .

If your a fan of Heat, Training Day, and the plot twist of The Usual Suspects . . . you'll love it.

Great casting, mega gun pornage, and several not so subtle nods to Micheal Mann's opus with an armored car heist opening to the nightscape cinematography, tunnel shots, and counter surveillance.

The Raid: Redemption

All the firearms are apparently airsoft, with CGI to make the bullet/casings/muzzle flash action look real. But there’s so much action in this movie in general you can overlook that. If you like pencak silat this movie is full of it, crazy awesome fight choreography.
