SLR107 vs SLR108

I know these haven't been released yet, but what are the differences besides the muzzle threads and gas block? Which one is preferred?

I know the 108 is suppose to be a pure AKM. What is the 107?

The SLR-107A1 will have the front sight block with 24mm rh threads and a 90* gas block of the updated AK-100 series.

The SLR-108 will be, as Dinger said, an AKM. Standard 14mm LH threaded muzzle, and 45* gas block.

This picture is to show the difference between a threaded muzzle with 14/1mm LH threads and a rifle with an AK-74/AK-100 series front sight block that is pressed over the muzzle and has 24mm RH threads. Both rifles in the picture have the updated 90* gas block.

So, the differences are purely cosmetic? Is one system prefered over the other?

The biggest difference will be the gas block.

The Russians found out that if they drilled the gas port at a 90* angle vs. a 45* angle, that the port will breach in a groove vs. a land the vast majority of the time.

The 45* port on the early AK-74 would also have a tendency to strip jacket material off the bullet.

The 90* gas block is the updated design and should contribute to accuracy.

As far as the muzzle threads, there are flash suppressors and muzzle brakes available for the 24mm rh thread pitch that aren't for the 14mm lh, but you can get an adapter for the older 14/1mm lh to allow you to use the 24mm rh accessories.
