View Full Version : Has Colt stopped production of the LE6960.

Buds has less than 5 on their site, Gunbroker has about 7 listed and only 1 of my LGSs can find 1 from a distributor that he can order. I recently bought one a few months ago from another LGS. He said, the one sold me might be the last one he can get. I think the complete upper is still available.

It was a Talo exclusive, so they sometimes stop making them.

Or they may just be between production runs.

The reason the gun shop said that Colt was the last one they could get was likely because Colt has started only selling to gun shops who order a minimum of 20 products. Tying up that much money pretty much knocks all small LGS’s out of the picture for stocking Colt. When consumers can purchase a DPMS or Del Ton for $499 that is visually identical to the Colt 6960 going for $1100, most go for the cheaper brand even though they will not hold up to hard use for as long as the Colt will. And in all honesty, most will never run a rifle hard enough to see the difference.

The LE6960 is still in production.

Lol. When I first read this I thought you said “virtually” identical and I was going to reply really? WT? But then I reread it...

Brownells has the 6960 lower on sale and in stock for $499 down from $699. No BCG or CH. Still a decent deal for a Colt upper.

I wish I hadn't seen this post.

10% off of $499 + 4% cash back from AJ: $432 for the 6960 upper.

Not a bad price either way, I came up with $423.00 building something fairly equivalent out of quality parts. Plus I'd have to pay shipping from 4 vendors.

59.95 - BCM upper (demo)
8.00 - BCM A2 flash hider
15.00 - BCM mid length gas tube
39.00 - ALG Geissele Carbon Steel gas block (pinnable)
165.95 – Green Mountain Barrels - GM-M8 1:8 twist, mid-length, chrome-lined, stress-relieved, air-gauged, 1.9 lbs
132.00 - LaRue Tactical 13.2" LAT or SAT rail
$423.00

Plus, the fun of putting mine together = priceless.

Funny, I kind of did the same thing but sourcing Colt parts from G&R and rail and came up with:

Colt upper - $150
Colt barrel (6720 w FSB) as comparison - $260
Centurion 13” Mlok rail - $230
Gas tube - $15
A2 - $10
X Gas Block - $40

= $705. About the pre-sale price of upper.

Thanks, pomyc!! This will pair very nicely with one of the low priced LE6920 lowers I previously bought from Brownells.

Kind of what I thought - I just ordered one to put on the Colt lower I bought from Brownell's last year. I have a charging handle and will use a Toolcraft 1B1B6 BCG. I figure I'll have $719.00 in the rifle.

Yeah. I was in a hurry when I ordered mine first thing in the morning and did not pay attention or see they had a coupon code... I had just placed an order for small shotgun parts the day before and didn’t see a code.

I’ll ask if they will credit me but I’m doubtful. On me. Dumb.

Add another $90 ($40 for Colt Semi ambi safety and Magplul SL grip and Stock for $49 from Primary Arms) and you have a CCU complete carbine for $810.

That is not a bad deal. I have a boatload of ambi-safeties - IIRC I bought them on sale from CCMG several years ago - but I'll probably look into the Primary Arms Deal.

I have more AR's than I can legitimately use, and am trying to thin the herd so I can put more together. My plan is to keep rifles with unique/cool logos lowers (Sionics, CMT, Centurion, SLR15, etc.). I'm bouncing around on whether Colt meets my coolness criteria and whether I want to peddle this one or keep it.

If I could start all over again, I'd do things differently.

What I have are a few rifles that will go bang when I pull the trigger; nothing more, nothing less.

My rifles aren't cool, unique or desirable in any way. I'm okay with that.

I'm still in the single digits, but as you said, it's more than I can legitimately use. The value of the 6960 upper is what pushed me to buy it, but it's been a "regret" since I've hit submit.

I will probably hang onto it for awhile, but it may end up being sold off. Honestly, I think I'm just tired of spending money.

My order confirmation shows $10 off instead of the 10% that was originally given.

I sent an email looking for a correction.

After sending the email, I received this:

Valued Brownells Customer,

We’re reaching out to let you know of a mistake on your recent order.

Your recent order using promotion code NEU should have given you 10% off your purchase price. Through a system error on our end, the correct discount was not applied to your order.

To correct this mistake, we are working on issuing an immediate credit to your order for the appropriate amount. You should see this credit applied very soon.

Mine arrived today:

Barrel dated 05/17

Mine also arrived today, and my barrel date looks Ike 08/17.

It is completely blemish free. The receiver was completely dry, while the hand guard and barrel were thoroughly oiled.

I'll take it to the indoor range on Friday when the BCG arrives. Also going will probably be an LE6920-R.

Mine did too but I’m out of town on work travel. Hard to tell from my phone but yours looks good.

It appears your barrel is stamped with Cage Code 13629? Thanks.

I almost ordered one the other day with the 10% discount code. I had to step back and check myself. I already have more AR's than I will ever need. Still, that $450 shipped was hard to pass up...…..

Mine arrived this afternoon. I'm very pleased overall with appearance and quality of assembly. I mentioned in another thread, absent the BCG and charging handle, I now have a complete Colt thanks to some great sales at Brownell's.

My intent was to sell this, but, I like it. If it shoots okay I'll probably keep it and peddle something else.

I was able to open my box today as well. I’m also very happy with the quality. I intend to drop in a spare Colt BCG (non C marked) I bought from G&R last fall and throw it on the $239 Colt complete I got from Brownell’s awhile back.

Based on the various Colt “outsourcing” and “quality” threads, for those interested, the markings are:

05/17 barrel date mark.

13629 cage code and square foundry marks on the upper.

13629 cage code AND C, MP, NATO 1/7, marks on the barrel.

Brownell’s also credited me the 10% off code I missed, so at $450 with the free 2 day shipping I have with my Edge membership, this is really quite a good deal.

(Still, needed it like I need a hole in the head...)

The Colt BCG arrived today, so I cleaned it, lubed it, and placed it into its new home. The carrier was stamped with the C, and the bolt has MPC and a black dot.

The carbine ran well today, just as expected. I took along a 16" BCM ELW middy with original 13" KMR handguard and a BCM brake. The Colt, even with an A2 flash hider was clearly a softer shooter than the slightly lighter BCM.

Do LE6960s come with 4 position receiver extensions? My Brownell's lower still has the factory 4 position RE attached to it. I ordered a VLTOR A5 for a Mega lower about a week ago, but thought about putting it onto the Colt, but I'll probably not.

Yep, I'll be keeping it.

I'm not surprised at the receiver extension. I never use the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th positions of 6 position extensions (not a NTCH guy), so the 4 positions work fine for me.

As does mine.
