Im looking for some feedback on some flat shooting calibers that can be used in the AR15 platform. Going to be used for long range target and hunting. Currently have a mk12 and a .243LBC that I use. I like the 22-250 but I think thats a AR10 platform. Any suggestions?

Give 5.56 / 223 Remington a try.

+1. This.

If you’re interested in 22-250, it does indeed require a .308 type rifle. Its a laser beam. I do recommend the fastest twist barrel you can get your hands on, so that you can handload bullets with a reasonable BC. That said, I only use it in bolt guns, personally. So I don’t know what pitfalls it may have in a semiauto.

What are our operational distances/range? Good old 5.56 with good ammo gets us 1000 yards worth of coverage.

thanks for the suggestions. I already have the 6mm AR. I wanted to be able to buy ammo off the shelf if need be. Already have the mk12 and that performs great, but for hunting will that have enough to put a hog or a deer down at 400yds? I will have to look into the others, grendel and 224. OP distance/range would be at least 1000 for paper and 400-600 for hunting coyotes, 200-250 hogs/deer.

There's a 50+ page topic here about using 223 on hogs. With proper bullet selection seems to work just fine

Do really "need" something different than your custom 6mm (.243LBC) or your 5.56, or are you just jonesing for something new?

Like the others said, you should be able to do everything you want with what you have.

If you're just jonesing for something new, then in addition to what the others said, there's also the .22Nosler.

Both. The 6mm is a 24" bbl. To heavy to hunt with realistically. I was also looking to see whats new out there. Always jonesing for something new!! lol

This with GMX or Barnes bullets for piggies.
