We interviewed someone today who works for our company in San Diego. We asked him why he was interested in our position in North Alabama. Of course he mentioned professional growth, then said "I need to leave California".

He has a school age son and loves the outdoors, but says you can't even have a campfire there. Said he wants to be able to shoot, hunt, fish, and camp. We assured him there is a public range within 15 miles of our office, one of us shoots every weekend, one of us fishes every weekend and hunting is very accessible.

The clinchers? Buying a house and having a bus for his son to ride to school. We mentioned that all three of us own homes and that it is going to be hard for him to beleive the difference in cost of living.

Sometimes I forget how fortunate we are here.

Hope he makes it. Calif is an extremely beautiful piece of America but it's been overrun with crazy people. I will miss the Mojave desert when I leave.

I can’t wait to get out of here too. The oppressive taxes and regulations are ridiculous. Recently looked at Alabama but the wife said no, she wants to live in a mountain state, I just want out. Been with the same agency for 20 years next month, currently on light duty waiting for my third knee surgery. Ca is a beautiful place and tons of hunting and fishing opportunities I just can’t handle the progressive/socialist anymore.

Heavily forested or more sparce vegetation? If the latter I'm sure you don't want Colorado with the way it seems to be turning to be politically......Kali-East! If the former then eastern Tennessee or western North Carolina, both mountainous, and you will actually have four seasons. The land is beautiful in those areas. Not quite Rocky Mountain elevations but Appalachian.

I’ve loved Colorado since the first time I went there. spent my vacation last year there showing my wife around. Unfortunately I’m not trading one blue state in for another. We’ve been looking at Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming, the if you have a Ca plate on your vehicle, they hate you. Since I’m working a light duty job, I have plenty of time to surf realtor.com and Land Watch. I’ve looked at E. Tennessee and N. Carolina, but damn I’m not sure if I can deal with the humidity. I just want to live free, when I’m not harassed by burdensome taxes, regulations and some asshole isn’t constantly trying to erode my 2A rights. My once beautiful AR’s are an abomination because of the stupid laws.

At the higher elevations (highest point in the Smokey Mountains is 6600 feet at Clingman's Dome) the humidity isn't quite as bad as in other parts of TN/NC. I'm sure it's "humid" when compared to the West but living in middle Tennessee I can tell you that those "higher" elevations would be a welcome relief to those of us in the greenhouse!

I’ll keep that in mind when I’m looking, thank you. Either way you shake it, I’ll get a pay raise leaving Ca when I retire since I won’t have a 13% state tax.

Born and raised in California. Lived their 30 years until I left in 2006. I had no idea how bad it was until I left and experienced something else. Something more free. A different perspective. Every time I go back to visit friends or family the sadder I become because it truly has gotten worse. I have no desire to go back.

Yeah, sadly it became something of a mecca during the 60s for nearly every single unsavory element of American society. Of course they started destroying California beginning of the 20th when they diverted water from Owens valley to turn LA from a desert into a quasi desert suburb.

Heck, look just about anywhere other than the States bordering the Pacific and the States bordering the Atlantic from Virginia North. It is a big Country full of great States where you can actually buy houses. Everytime someone say's they are from KA I just shake my head and wonder why.........
