Quick refinishing question: Cerakote/Gunkote etc vs regular house paint

Just had a quick question for anyone out there who does refinishing, etc.: How would common house paint (say, Behr from Home Depot) hold up on AR furniture? I mean, it's probably a thicker coat than Cerakote, Gunkote or Duracoat for one, and I'm not sure of its temperature and wear tolerance.

For example, the two closest matches I've been able to find for a specific target shade of green are an off-the-shelf Behr and a custom Cerakote mix of 14 parts green to 1 part white--the Behr is a little closer to a match and can be had off-the-shelf, but it's also a latex-based paint and thus might need a clear topcoat since my girlfriend has a latex allergy.

For reference, here are the target and the two shades in question (target in the middle):

Okay, a few followups:
1. Is an 8oz. "sample bottle" of paint enough to cover a full AR furniture set?
2. If I need to apply a "barrier layer," would regular house paint survive the baking of Cerakote or Gunkote?
3. Is the juice worth the squeeze for the extra point or two closer in RGB values, or should I just Easy Button and tell my neighborhood gunsmith "I need a 14/1 mix applied to these four parts, how much do I make the check for?"

Is this for your Canadian clone build, or just something you’re painting for camo, or because its dinged up?

Edit: I just re-read and realized I misunderstood what paint you’re trying to use. So I won’t be able to give you an answer due to lack of experience.

I've used Behr latex and oil-based house paints on, well, my house.

Based on that, if you are going to put it on the mantle, go for it. If you are going to use it, nope.

The latex will peel, and even oil based will wear more rapidly than a paint developed for plastic or metal.

Unless you are talking display only, I'd accept a tiny color variation before I'd use house paint.

Thanks, guys, looks like Cerakote for the C8 it is. Both more durable AND no bothersome, fun-killing (either on-range or postgame ;) ) allergy issues. 1168, this is partially for the C8 build, but also on a broader level for general principles to advance my own education as a kitchen-table gunsmith.

Late to the party but you would be nuts to use the latex paint for this.

I will say that a slow and careful rattlecan job, with proper surface preparation, timing the coats as indicated on the can, and a topcoat of Rustoleum matte clear (which contains amorphous silica), will hold up quite well for ordinary non-gentle use and handling. The matte clear makes a huge difference and is much more wear-resistant than the various color paints I've tried, including Aervoe. Of course it will still chip or wear through if abused enough. Cerakote is quite tough, but it too can be damaged with rough handling - just at a slower rate. The only solution is DLC or nitride on everything, EVERYTHING!!! ;-)
