Rutger Hauer was in a lot of movies, but as Roy in Blade Runner, he was truly on another level. His performance in that movie was timeless, and for myself and many others, holds a very special place. For those who don't "get" it, hard to really express in words as to the loss here.

And so it goes.

I certainly agree with your assessment and sentiment.

One of my favorite actors.

Flesh+Blood
Blade Runner
The Hitcher

Should have had him play the German infantry officer in Raiders of the Lost Ark, although Wolf Kahler is a good actor too.

The “tears in rain” monologue, which was written by Rutger, is one of the greatest.

Which followed almost immediately after the scene posted above. The interview with Rutger on how he tapped into his own and Roy's "Inner poet" as he called it, is awesome.

While that is agreeably his best scene he also did an interesting role in Fatherland where he plays a SS major in a future 1964 Germany that didn't lose the war who accidentally learns about the truth about his countries "resettlement" program.

To me that might well be one of the most powerful scenes in cinema host.

RIP Mr Hauer. Blade Runner was my favourite sci-fi movie as a teenager and the Dutch actor certainly left an impression on me. What timing - I just got off a plane from Amsterdam two hours ago.

For a movie with a CRAPTACULAR ending, he was quite good - and the movie HAS some moments - in, "Split Second (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105459/)." Yeah... I actually paid cash money to see it... mainly BECAUSE of Rutger Hauer.

"The candle that burns twice as bright only burns half as long. And you have burned very brightly, Roy."

Dr. Tyrell to Roy in Bladerunner.

Farewell, Roy. You burned very brightly indeed.

While his performance in Blade Runner will always be my favorite, Nighthawks (Wulfgar) also ranks up there...

I completely forgot that one and it's also one of my favorite films. That was in the days when you had to worry about a terrorist who might kill a handful of people and Munich was considered a worst possible example.

I always enjoyed Rutger Hauer's work. R.I.P. Agreed on Nighthawks, haven't see that in a long time.
