Say money wasnt an issue, you have competition, cqb, perimeter, and long distance setups already, mags and ammo coming out of your ears, and you've got the itch for a new AR and optic and you want top tier everything. What would you get? No purpose other than pure shooting enjoyment.

Not bad. Shooting enjoyment does come easy on a rifle gas system.

Full length 20" rifles are probably the most "enjoyable" ARs for me from a shooting standpoint, and I've already got two A1 clones.

So I think I'd get an M16A4 type rifle with an ACOG or Elcan or something. (I don't really know how good Elcans are or are not, but I've always kinda wanted to mess with one.) Should be a fun shooter and also very practical too because I feel that 20" ARs are still very relevant, at least for civilians.

If money and laws were no object I think I'd want either a full auto Colt 733 or Colt light machine gun. I fired someone's full auto but closed-bolt mockup of the latter and thought it was pretty neat.
I've always been kinda interested in light support weapons, mostly because I can't have them.

PBI like this answer.

I think I'd go with a 14.5" or 16" midlength gas LMT MRP MARS (rifle length rail, not carbine length). I'd run it with an LMT enhanced bolt carrier group and a Geissele SSP. Nightforce ATACR 1-8 in a KAC mount for the optic. B.E. Meyers MAWL and Modlight for use at night with/without NV.

With everything else already covered.... I'd want my first AR I was issued when I got to Ft Campbell. It was an M16A1 made by Hydramatic Division of GM. I've still got my weapons card with the serial number on it somewhere in all my old stuff. Just because.

I’d probably do a kiss 6920. Carry handle, A2 front sight post, standard heat shields, standard bird cage fh.
Trigger, sling and grip of your choice if anything. No scope or hologram optic, no light, no fwd grip. Just kiss.

A kac 11.5” with m16 lower and optic of choice... maybe a thermal, along with a decent helmet nv monocular and mawl?

Full disclosure- I own none of these... yet.

18” lightweight chrome-lined barrel tapered to mostly pencil, with extra care given during installation to maximize accuracy
Lightweight 14” MLOK handguard
FSB
Centurion Arms rear sight
MARS-LS full auto lower with A5 system

Some sort of uber-cool, lightweight 1-5-10x optic that doesn’t exist yet, with programmable BDC’s based on the ammo you select.

Might not be light, but all the pieces already exist to build exactly that, it's just a matter of figuring out how to put them all together. A typical smartphone has MORE than enough computing power to do it, and it would be helped immensely if sighting lasers could be adapted to also rangefind whatever the dot's on. From there it shouldn't be too complicated to have an app take the range, ballistics of the selected round, and feed that into a holographic projector on an Eotech--you could even add an Aliens pulse-rifle style round counter by adding an RFID reader and a couple chips in the mag to measure distance between them.

Eotech's basic architecture has a LOT of headroom for growth that's never really been explored since the EoHack project was abandoned. I know, that's not a magnified optic...

Same here, except mine was a Colt.

Which is what I have, a RR Colt M16A1 manufactured in 1983.

However, mine is now upgraded with a 6933 upper, Daniel Defense Omega rail, BCM ion-bonded bcg, Geissele SSF fcg, Vltor Emod stock and AAC M42K suppressor. :)

Well, op did say pure shooting enjoyment. I’ve never not have fun shooting. Even a bushmaster.

I’ve got an itch for a KAC 11.5. Idk if scratching it will be everything I’ve been hoping but I think it will. As far as fun goes, I think the most I’ve ever had with an AR is a mk18 clone. No suppressor, just a KAC nt4 mount. I don’t think AR’s are the most fun to shoot though. For me shotguns win there. Handguns and .22’s beat AR’s for me too

I have this except with a surefire mini, and I use the A5. It shoots super smooth, hardly any gas to the face. It shoots the 77gr good

Say what you will but that one gun stuck out to me so much over the years. It looks lame now but teenybopper me thought it ruled.

Anything with a 3 round burst. Always enjoyed that way more then a full auto. Prefer a 20" rifle but would take anything.

Either the brand new FN A2 I took to Iraq or the M203 I had at Ft Lewis (AKA JBLM) that was scary accurate. An A2 will probably be my next build.

You should try an M16 with the SSF fcg. It will make you realize that burst fcg's are unnecessary. It's as close to telepathic as I've ever fired. It's significantly better than the factory Colt fcg my A1 came with and light years better than the A2 burst fcg in my 2nd issued service rifle.

I will look into it. Is it a title II item? or is it like the echo or binary triggers?

Title II. If you have a registered receiver FA or burst MG, the SSF is the BEST upgrade you can make and worth every penny.

I love it. Some great replies folks! Mostly KAC 11.5 and original issue military rifles I see. Y'all have me drooling over a KAC 11.5 upper now (for a pistol because I'm trying to stay away from more Federal filings) or maybe an LWRC or LMT, hell IDK, but I've some fun money burning a hole in my pocket!

If it has to be an AR, Colt LMG. If it’s anything, KAC LMG.
