Ordered this rifle via Clyde Armory the morning after Obama is elected. I took delivery of it Tuesday.

This is a ADS Alpha Basic, and it's my first AR and centerfire rifle. I have layawayed my beloved CZ 452 .22LR to my best friend and that help offset the cost of this rifle.

I'll shoot it over the weekend. Problem is, I have only 20 rds of ammo so far and only one mag. Everywhere is out of mags and I need to pick up more ammo before I go!!!

Looks good, but I think your carry handle is a notch too far back.

Nice looking carbine.

1. You may want to fix your carrying handle. It should be flush with the front part of the upper receiver.

2. Ammo is out there, one need only look. I just bought another 500 rds. last night online.

3. Mags are around as well. Again just look. I think Grant from GandR just made a recommend for the Lancer AR mags. I found a few places online that had them for 17.00 and change.

4. Do the best to seek some training so that you can how to effectively use your carbine. Do some research on how to clean and maintain your weapon as well.

Rod and patch through the barrel, lubed the BCG with plenty of CLP, and off to the range :), first time since June!

The rifle is ADS (Advanced Defense System) Alpha Basic.

There are some discussion about the feed ramp on ADS rifles, and here is my contribution:
http://filebox.vt.edu/users/hyau/AR15/ADSM4Feedramp.jpg

The wind was terrible at about 15-20mph. However, it was about 68F with an overcast sky so it's very comfortable.

I expended 120 rds or about $70 worth of Ammo. I got a case of Wolf coming in... I guess... December. I got 100 rds from Dick's

I adjusted the sight using the "Improved Battle Sight Zero". It works extremely well and the gun pretty much shoots POA=POI out of the box in terms of elevation and with about 8-9 clicks to the left for windage to completely zero the carbine.

Here is a target from 50 yds with Iron sight and shot from the bench with front rest only. Ammo is 55gr Remington UMC (Green box) ammo.

The gun functioned flawlessly for all 120 rounds, and it is an absolute joy to shoot.

Few nitpicking things however. First, the pistol grip has such a rise on the checkering it pinches the skin between the middle and my palm. I guess I could use a new pistol grip. Secondly, the pivot pushpin was very tight and cannot pull out fully to allow the upper to separate. I have to use a small hammer and punch to drift the pin out. To correct that, I removed the pushpin from the lower and gently sand the pin down then lube it, and now it pushes in and out easily.

I only have one mag right now but since most of my shootings were zeroing and busting water bottles, clay pigeons other random range debris I didn't load more than 10 rds in the mag. I am looking forward to get more mags.

Finally, I have one question. Can anyone verify me that ADS uses ER Shaw barrels? At the Clyde Amory website it said that's the case but I can't find any other website that support this claim.

I bought my ADS from G&R Tactial. I read his description of the ADS on this forum when he started selling them and he stated it has a Shaw made barrel and a LAR industries lower. I like mine. I put the Troy folding battle sight on mine, no carry handle for me. I also got mine with the LMT bcg.

Just purchased 4 Lancer magazines and the MIAD basic grip kit.

I'll test the mags at the range tomorrow. They look good and feels very solid, they also drop free. They have a black follower, which is different from the green follower on the product packaging. I'm not sure the color difference means I have a newer kind of follower.

I really like the grip so far. It doesn't pinch like the stock grip and it brings the palm a little further back so it's more natural to use the pad of the finger to pull the trigger.

I mounted my crappy ten-year-old Wal-Mart sling on it. Once funds become available I will get a new sling. I'm thinking about the BFG VCAS.

Question: I just wonder where the attachment points are for the VCAS. Do I need to buy any additional sling mounting hardware or I can just use the built-in attachment point?

Just one more picture for good measure.

Nice gun.
You are GTG on the Vickers sling, just buy and attach with what is on the gun.
Great sling. I recommend the padded.

Took it to the range again. The Lancer mags worked flawlessly. I used the "Monarch" Ammo bought from Academy Sports last week. One kind is brass cased and it's the same as the Prvi, and one kind is lacquered steel case, which is the same as Wolf. The Privi kind cost $8.97 per 20 and the Wolf kind is about $5 per 20.

Here is another target I shot today. I shot it from a bench without seat and the rifle is support by my elbows only. I shot 10 rounds in about a minute. For those who know, is that ok shooting?

I would like to attend the Appleseed in January as I live somewhat close (about 2 hrs. driving) from the organization's main range.

Got my new DSLR, have to use it to contribute for some gun porn.

It's still as plain as it can be except for the Vickers Tactical Sling. I'm using all Lancer mags for now. The stock mag jams half the time with Wolf MC and was promptly discarded at the range.
