I'm trying to remember/find a WWII movie I saw as a kid. The story is about a lone American vs a lone Japanese stranded on inland trying to kill each. I can barely remember it but it was not Hell in the Pacific with Lee Marvin and Toshirô Mifune. I think it may have been black and white. One thing I recall was the American got a nasty leg infection from a cut on a bladed booby trap while climbing a tree the Japanese setup for him. Any helps would be appreciated.

I too remember that flick & it was EXCELLENT. Like you, I cannot recall the title.
Is it possibly "The Last Bullet" (1995) with Jason Donovan?
It sounds so much like Enemy Mine

It's much older than that.

I dig that movie but they didn't buddy up like that or like Hell in the Pacific.

That would actually be Hell in the Pacific.

Enemy Mine is basically a remake of Hell in the Pacific just in space.

Just as a guess was it Darren McGavin in the role as the US GI?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065534/
Gallery, a U.S. commando, and Yuro, an enemy commando, are sent to a no man's Pacific jungle island to capture a crashed U.S. space satellite. Whoever survives, wins. Their nations have agreed to this to avoid war, but they cheat.

I don't think that is it, IIRC it was a B/W film.

Bingo, that's it. I was wrong about it being WWII, more of a Vietnam era. Thanks, it was driving me nuts.
