Only one I've heard of was a long time ago in Quebec, and I think that was a Mini-14, hardly an "assault rifle" (given that it was expressly exempt from the '94 US AWB).

The black face would be a campaign killer for a conservative. But for a liberal it gives his party a cover excuse to sideline him without having to say he was incompetent. If he was doing a stellar then they would let it slide. But he seems more of a placeholder than a national leader so my guess is they will use this easy out opportunity and move on with someone else.
