Old aimpoint having issues

I have an old aimpoint 5000XD that started giving me issues on Saturday.

I've had it for 10 years, it came with a rifle I bought. A few years ago the battery finally died and because I don't use that rifle often it has sat since then. This weekend I wanted to take the rifle to a class and went and bought a new battery.

It works but needs to be smacked to work. The dot disappears until you smack the side where the battery is. Also on the highest setting there is a red glow in the outer circumference of the glass. If smacked a few times the glow disappears.

Also, I did remove the original battery when it died so it did not sit inside deteriorating

Was only made for 2 years. Last in 2001 according to Aimpoint. I doubt they still support it it wouldn't hurt to call them. Might be time to move on.

You could try cleaning the contacts where the battery will touch in the event there's something keeping the electrical current from flowing freely.
