View Full Version : Russian-manufactured AR-15's?
Was not aware that Russia even made these:
"Russian ORSIS has announced that they have set up a manufacturing line to produce AR-15 pattern rifles chambered in .223 Remington. The new rifles are called ORSIS-AR15J. They seem to be pretty standard configuration rifles but if priced right they should have a high demand in Russia because there is very limited availability of reasonably priced quality AR-15s in the local market. The company earlier used to assemble AR-15 rifles from imported parts but the new ORSIS-AR15J will be completely manufactured in-house."

Reverse engineered from captured Bushmasters?

Reverse engineered from captured Bushmasters?
So no technical package and no 5.56 chambers. Yawn.
I actually believe at some point the Russians will be using some kind of an AR for their big army.
They already use ARs for their SF.
I imagine these were based off Chinese rifles rather than Bushmasters
Why not. The AR is a simple firearm to manufacture in the current CNC age.

So no technical package and no 5.56 chambers. Yawn.Possible but not necessarily. There's been enough conflicts since Vietnam for them to get their hands on just about every type of AR. And that's assuming it's coming from a conflict and not just arms dealers

My guess?
The Russians don't throw away anything. If they can't haul it back to Mother Russia they'll burn it (like they did the Georgian weapons).
They gave away WWII German weapons because that's what they captured during the war. "Free" battlefield recovery.
These were probably picked up off the ground in Vietnam, stored, then shipped to the puppet pro-Soviet Afghan government.
The Bushmasters were allegedly captured in Georgia. Think a Vickers video or 2 mentions Russian special forces occasionally using captured Bushmasters too.

Plenty of different opportunities, just thought the Georgian pick-ups could be the basis due to time frame.

So 5.56mm has been banging the hills in Afghanistan for 30+ years eh? Interesting.....
Nice pics BTW.
When South Vietnam fell in 1975 there were probably whole armories that were captured intact by the NVA/VC.
Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan with M16s is peak aesthetics not gonna lie.

Don’t want to detract from this interesting topic but the aesthetics make me feel some kind of a way.
I wonder if any CAR-15s were used by Soviets in Afghanistan too. That would be Aesthetic AF
Still a bunch in storage in Vietnam.

Look at that sad patina of rust on those 1919's.
Ever see the pics of those piles of weapons in Vietnam just left out in the open rusting away?
All the Soviets with M16A1 pics indicate KGB use. 2 more pics are on Reddit.

For people who don’t reddit, could you post them here please?
I think aside from logistics and investment that AKs were a political statement. I bet you money in 40 years their big army is using a Russified AR. Or heck, a group buy from China.
Maaaaybe even 5.56. Both countries make oodles of it and its not that bad

The Chinese (Norinco) have manufactured knock-offs of the most recent US weapons -- M1911, M14s, M16s, and the M4.
noogle the CQ carbine. Some of their police SWAT teams use them.

I have read where the M14's they reverse-engineered were originally intended for the Philippine's NPA guerillas (and used there) but many eventually wound their way into export to the U.S.

Everyone raves about polytech M14s. It took me a while to realize M14s suck but the Red Chinese have made some respectable enough copies.
Like some of their 1911s are more Colt than Colt.

Weren't the grip screws/bushings the only parts that were odd ball on the 1911's?

So this was the right meme AFTER all!!
https://i.ibb.co/fSnkHVK/Wolverines.jpg
I remember years ago some folks saying (or maybe complaining?) that the Chicom 1911's were made of some of the hardest steel ever encountered on a firearm.
I remember the big deal with the polytech M14s were that they were actually forged receivers where the springfield armory inc. M1As were cast. I think this was more ideal for welding the extra lug to the rear of the receiver when building a full house NM rifle. I think the rest of the parts were pretty much crap and good ole GI parts were pretty abundant.
.... all of this nonsense was qucikly rendered obsolete by civilian driven AR developments that quickly made the winners circle an affordable place to hang out.
