Interesting, but do we give a bullpup a chance in Hell in this competition?

"The weapons use what General Dynamics’ describe as a ‘gas and recoil operated, impulse averaged, air cooled’ system. With both the rifle and AR being magazine fed from box magazines – this again is a departure away from rival designs, with both Textron and SIG Sauer both utilising belt feeds."

Interesting concept. These polymer rounds appear to be a bit more of a viable and logical option compared to those bulky, shotshell-looking telescoping rounds. However, I still see these weapons trials going the way of the Advanced Combat Rifle, Land Warrior, and OICW programs. Not to say that this is all a solution in search of a problem; looking for a way to create a weapon that is smaller, lighter, more powerful, and more simple and reliable than current weapons is...well...what gun designers have been doing since the matchlock! I also think that the technology being put forth here is going to plant seeds for new types of guns in the future. However, right now, I don't think the technology is ready for prime time.

Lotsa "new" on that rifle, be interesting to see what does and doesn't work.

The Army tends to be (generally) very conservative. There may be too much that's "exciting and new" on this weapon for the Army's taste.

Some do nothing rich kid countries in the Middle East will buy it like they do blinged out MP5s and G18s but even as a layperson I can see how that gun is a huge step back and not just as a bullpup.

I don't know anything about this rifle but I want to meet the battalion CO that had his guys out in the field with full IOTV and DAPS with a rucksack and punch him in the nuts. That armor system is the biggest pile of trash I was subjected to in 2009.

Bull pups are lame but I’d like to know more about the can.

Why is it every time I read "lightening the soldier's load" I immediately think some poor sod is going to end up getting even more weight since someone will tell him to carry more ammo "because it doesn't weigh as much as the old stuff."

I'm not sure there's such a thing as too much ammo, but it just seems like each and every time a soldier's load gets lightened, they toss on even more stuff and somehow make it heavier.

"Squad weapon"
Do they mean "rifleman squad" or "New SAW", because....if they want a new squad auto...this is literally cheating;

I can tell you it's going to contribute to a lot of sight offset. Give me a damn Maxim design that rides below the bore with a QD mount. It's 100 years old and probably still the best way to go.

That needs to be in general issue more than the new stupid SIG handgun.

The problem is, it seems like these days, companies like HK, Knight's, etc. are usually too expensive for large scale, general issue stuff. Yeah, Knight's has the M110 for the snipers, and HK has their 416s for JSOC, and of course the MP5s. But other than that, it seems like the only companies that ever really get a fair shake at anything for the military are Colt, FN, Beretta, and SIG.

Yea the KAC LMG is straight up easy button for all of this.

I doubt price would matter considering the volume of units being ordered.

If you factor it against lives saved by having a few more of these in circulation, I think they would pay for themselves. They should at least have the Marines field test them.

Looks interesting but in order to accept the trade off of cumbersome magazine changes for increased ballistic performance, I would want a magazine of at least 45-50 rounds.

That’s assuming it works right and can actually get back into action in the event of a stoppage, and doesn’t require some sort of immediate action requiring three hands, a monkey, and a tool kit. Which being a bullpup it probably does have a wonky immediate action drill.

Looks like a Styer Aug, a False and an SA-80 had a threesome and that is the result and for good measure someone said hey let's stick an oil filter on the end of it and drill some holes in it.

I would not quibble about costs. The Army spends more money on computers and much more per soldier on the Land Warrior system.

I would be concerned that the firearms and the ammo are at least as reliable and durable as the current M4 and tradition brass cased ammo. If this is going to be a disaster, which I have a feeling it will, I hope it fails before being fielded.
