I’m thinking of building a compact 1911. Looking for recommendations on frame manufacturers.

If you are not in a hurry I would use a titanium frame. With that being said they are not for the beginner.

Thanks guys. I am a newbie, so I'll stay away from titanium (for now). I'll check the others out and see about availability.

Having been there and done that more than once, I would recommend a slide and frame kit from Caspian or Fusion (if they're still around). Especially if you don't have a lot of 1911-specific tools.

Fusion is still around; Bob Serva posts often on FB.

Why?

And who has them? More importantly - who will work on them?

Caspian (https://www.caspianarms.com/) used to offer it as an option but they seem to have discontinued those frames.

I'd just get a Ruger, Colt, or Springfield 9mm that has the frame type you want and build around that. If lightweight, I believe Caspian still has an aluminum receiver.

Another thing to consider, especially if this is your first build, compact 1911's are much fussier and can be a challenge to get running reliably. Not trying talk you out of it, just something to keep in mind.
