I bit and got the trial subscription to Disney+ to watch.
Oh. My. God.
Produced and written by John Favreau. It has an almost Avengers sense of humor with the Wild West theme and understated main character. Definitely worth the price of admission. I’m hooked after the first episode. This leaves Star Trek in the mud.

Watching the second episode and it’s just as good if not better in some ways than the first.

We'll see who remembers that we're supposed to be boycotting Disney in order to own the lib cucks.
I'll get to it this weekend, just signed up last night.

My kid is going to subscribe. Can't wait to check it out.
Good to hear. I can't bring myself to pay for yet another streaming service, but perhaps it will end up in Prime down the line as they often do.

I doubt it. Disney has been pulling content off of other services for the last few years so they could get this going.
Just got done with Ep. 2. Man, I hope this just keeps going, going and going. I had my reservations initially but so far I've been impressed.

I may give it the free trial and see what all the hoopla is all about.
I really looking forward to the Obi Wan series they are supposed to be making.

Then good luck to them. I'm happy with the extensive content I get via Prime and such. I hope the new series develops well from the first one. Personally waiting for The Expanse come back on!

I watched it in 1080P and didn't give Disney a dime. I have more reasons to hate Disney than just their leftist attitude. Trust me, they are assholes in more ways than that. Unlock my TV or Cinema HD and a VPN is your friend.

"I'm a Mandalorian. Weapons are part of my religion."
You had me at "Mandalorian"!
When I saw the previews I thought it was a movie. When I found out it was a season I was stoked, until I realized that the entire season hadn't dropped at once. I hate waiting a week between episodes, but yea it's rocked so far!

I’ll say, while this isn’t quite as good as BSG, it’s only different in degrees. It’s a solid 2 on my list list, maybe 1.5 with BSG still as 1.

Watched it, and subscribed to Disney + for the year. The Mandalorian so far has impressed, and a series type show will allow the story to fill out a lot more and hopefully give far more depth. Hopefully they don’t lose the plot and don’t screw it up.
Being as I have a toddler at home the ability to instantly find pretty much every Disney children’s movie ever made is already paying dividends. The older stuff was better and so far I have yet to not find an older movie available for streaming. So those of us with kids or grandkids may find this useful, more so than Netflix.

For the boycotters. Wait till the season is all the way done, sign up for free week, binge and cancel afterwards. I am going to wait for them to work out some streaming bugs before subscribing. Have an almost 4 year old who likes their movies and glad they have the whole library available so I can make him watch the old stuff I grew up on
I opted for D+. Only interested in Mandorian and SW but then I discovered the lineup. Having a young granddaughter I thought there may be some shows she could view during a visit.

Jumped into D+ specially for The Mandalorian. Fantastic stuff and well worth the price for that alone. So far it’s been everything Ep 7 & 8 should have been, and then some.

I've figured out why I like The Mandalorian. It's basically a sci-fi version of a Clint Eastwood western. Man with no name goes out to complete a bounty, but ends up protecting the weak instead.

Just saw both episodes. Wow. I can't believe they didn't screw this up with SJW dogma. I'll actually feel a little sad when they inevitably do.
I didn't see Empire Strikes Back until I was almost in my teens. Then it was plastic ship models, the Lucas Arts games like X-wing and Tie Fighter, then a few of the books during my teens.
This is the Star Wars I recognize from my childhood. It's all about freedom.

FYI if you have a Verizon unlimited plan, you get Disney + for free for a year...on any mobile capable device.
I'll wait.
I kinda like how everyone's seen a whopping 2 episodes and are ready to unilaterally sing it's praises.
It's almost like most have forgotten how most shows, especially mainstream ones like this, generally go- you either get a few good, well-written episodes, which were all that were completed before the show was shoved out the door to hit a deadline, and then about halfway through the first season it goes to shit.
Or you get one good first season, and then the second season everything goes to shit.
If they can hold it together for the WHOLE first season... then I'll say it was "good".

For those concerned:
Dave Filoni is working on this series.
He's the guy behind The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Resistance (those who are young enough might also remember Avatar: The Last Airbender (the series, not the movie), which he was also behind). The dude gets Star Wars and has been working on Star Wars since before LFL was bought by Disney.

I'm not that young but I watched the whole series. I liked it.
I’ve enjoyed it, it’s put together very well and harkens back to original trilogy vibes from my youth.
His name is Dyn Jarren (sp?)
And in the spirit of not ruining it for those who still want to see it...can we talk about how damn cute that thing is?
I'm always a fan of shows I can watch and really enjoy with my 12, 10, and 6 year olds. This show, so far is that. Like everyone else, I sure hope the excellence continues.

Really liking the series so far.
I'm not sure its because the show is great or, like someone dying of thirst, it's a quenching glass of cool water. The sequel trilogy has been such a disappointment that anything halfway decent is going to be a hit.
By the way, someone sent me the below. Hysterical.

For a Mandalorian beskar is everything. Their armor and weapons are a way of life, and I suppose you can say a measurement of their "wealth". They live to "level up" for a lack of better terms. Think Ready Player One and being a player in the Oasis.
"Here's why you can't exterminate us, aruetii. We're not huddled in one place—we span the galaxy. We need no lords or leaders—so you can't destroy our command. We can live without technology—so we can fight with our bare hands. We have no species or bloodline—so we can rebuild our ranks with others who want to join us. We're more than just a people or an army, aruetii. We're a culture. We're an idea. And you can't kill ideas—but we can certainly kill you."

Yeah it has spaghetti western elements, but considering the direction of this show I'd say it was more inspired by Lone Wolf and Cub (Shogun Assassin).

Shogun Assassin was awesome.
This show is so badass. I finally got to see disintegrations and it never got old. No matter how many times he did it. It never got old. It was like Dr. Manhattan. No time to scream. Just POOF.
I like that Mando is a bitter loner who plays by his own rules and only saves baby yoda because he’s cute.
And it had Apollo Creed in it. It’s like Rogue One but for men.

Mando may be a bitter loner, but he has a soft spot for kids. That was established early on when he visited the female Mando metalsmith. After his beskar pauldron was made, Mando told her to keep the leftover material for Mando orphans.
I'm juiced that he now has the full beskar'gam. No more of that durasteel rubbish.

Almost everything he said is from old canon. Everything in the series is new - which isn't to say that it isn't borrowing a lot of old canon, but don't expect that the old stuff is a guarantee of new stuff.
(And that's good, because a lot of the old Mando lore made Mandalorians into Mary Sues.)

Being that they have flashed back to him on backwater planet as kid and it being attacked in the same manner as this, also it being remote and unbothered. He has both an emotional reason and physical reason do do what he did.
She needed a place to hide out and some spending cash I would assume, on top of her being a noble fighter of course so it’s easy to get her on board.

I feel like Mando is a complicated man and Gina Carano understands him better. All the widow did was make dinner.
Plus it seemed like Gina was a little jealous. I DEMAND Mando and Gina get married and raise baby Yoda but somewhere nicer.

Mando’s trying to get his dick wet, cut him some slack it’s been a rough couple of days.
He needs to stop by Ling Ling's massage parlor between episodes.
Last episode was weak. I'm glad they have to leave the planet, cuz this rice paddy farming crap and silly women characters is heading the wrong way quick.
Yeah, because who needs character development or the addition of interesting characters?

I just need a space version of "WE WHOPPED EM JOSIE"
If Mando and Gina Carano don’t end up as a couple and swap serious spit after killing like a million Jawas and raise Baby Yoda on a farm in the Space Country after teaming up with Jayne Cobb to kill Rey then THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
Also that’s the only time he gets to visibly take his helmet off now on camera now. It’s Federal law. It’s a hate crime otherwise. I have spoken.
I will get on instagram wearing SAPI plates demanding as such. I’ll organize neckbeards with SKSes on instagram.
I don’t care what adventures they have or how many seasons the show lasts.
Film that ending NOW! It’s already canon.
This show is serious business

The last episode was an homage to the reluctant hero theme in case some of you weren't paying attention. Similarly, the idea of inspiring helpless and otherwise peaceful villagers to take up arms to defend themselves against tyranny has proven to be a successful storytelling formula (e.g. The Three Amigos, Kung-Fu Panda 3, A Bug's Life, the original Stargate movie, etc.) that many people empathize with.

It’s pretty impressive, how vigorously The Mandalorian is celebrating and incorporating classic Western tropes with each new episode, leaving no doubt whatsoever as to what creator Jon Favreau is trying to do here. Episode four, “Sanctuary,” utilizes a narrative so iconic that I couldn’t find just one classic example to represent it: Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (which led to the American Western classic The Magnificent Seven) is perhaps the closest, though one could also mention the Clint Eastwood classic High Plains Drifter, and the prominent presence of a beautiful widow also invokes Once Upon a Time in the West. But the threads of this story are all pretty familiar: an unlikely hero gets asked to protect a town of innocents from an overwhelming threat.
Of course, in these stories, the unlikely hero starts off reluctant to help, and in this case, The Mandalorian has a very good reason for wanting to stay out of the problems affecting a small village of krill farmers on Sorgan. Having picked this planet because he’s looking for a quiet place (or, in his words, “a back water skud hole”) where no one might track down him and Baby Yoda, all he wants is to lie low for a few months.
Upon his arrival, though, he encounters Cara Dune (the much-anticipated first appearance of Gina Carano), a former “shock trooper” who worked for the Rebellion until after the fall of the Empire. For unspecified but clearly justified reasons, she’s also hiding out on Sorgan — and as she informs Mando following a well-matched scuffle (ending, John Woo-style, with them both pointing blasters at each other), she was there first.
So, the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda (who just loves tagging along with his new surrogate daddy, and god it’s cute to watch him scurry to keep up) prepare to pack up and find another planet, until two krill farmers track him down in the woods. At the beginning of the episode, their village was raided by Klatoonian raiders, and they’re hoping that he’ll be able to chase off the raiders and protect them. (How they know about the Mandalorian and where to find them is a detail that seems to get left on the cutting room floor; presumably, they heard something about him being spotted at the local common house, but it’s not necessarily an important detail.)
Mando isn’t interested in helping them, until they mention just how remote their village is — still in need of a place to hide out, he agrees to help, and even convinces Cara to team up. She’s skeptical this will be worth their time (especially since the farmers are basically paying them “lunch money”), but her tune changes dramatically once they figure out that the raiders have a AT-ST at their disposal. Taking on one of these deadly Empire transport/weapons turns an easy protection gig into what Cara immediately sees as a lost cause, but when she and Mando try to convince the farmers that they need to give up and leave, the farmers refuse. After all, this is their home.
So instead Cara and the Mandalorian put the farmers through some basic combat training, preparing for battle with blasters and pointed sticks. Meanwhile, the Mandalorian has gotten attached to Omera (Julia Jones), a widow whose daughter loves Baby Yoda (which, understandable) and who seems to understand a bit about the customs which keep his face hidden.
For those who have not made an intense study of the Mandalorian Wookiepedia entry (or even casually googled the question “how do Mandalorians eat?”), we learn this week that Mandalorians do take their helmets off for basic necessities, but never in front of other people. Our hero here, who we know was taken in by the tribe after the death of his parents, says that he hasn’t shown his face to another person since he was a child, because he remains loyal to “the way.” He also explains to Cara later that he could take the helmet off, if he wanted to — he could just never put it back on again.
Omera stands out as the only farmer with real skill at shooting, but the other farmers work hard to prepare for battle. (Gotta love a training montage.) The battle that ensues is relatively simple — the raiders, lured out to the krill ponds, are met with an ambush, and thanks to the bravery of Cara, the AT-ST is successfully lured into the trap they’ve set, and Mando runs up to toss a grenade into the control cabin. But episode director Bryce Dallas Howard makes sure that every beat is clean and precise, with an emotionally satisfying conclusion.
The remaining raiders run away, the day is saved, and a few weeks later, Cara, the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda seem to have found a level of comfort among the farmers — Baby Yoda especially seems to love playing with the other children there. It could be a good life for them, especially because, as Cara notes, all it would take for Mando to “settle down with that beautiful young widow” is taking off the helmet. But it’s something he can’t bring himself to do, at least in part because he knows that their battle with the raiders will have attracted some attention, and it isn’t safe for him to stay.
It’s a real credit to Pedro Pascal’s performance, which by necessity relies so heavily just on his voice, that his genuine consideration about settling down with the farmers comes through; the audible catch in his throat when he says “it would” be nice to have some peace only makes the next beat of the scene, in which he tells Omera that it’s not possible for him, that much more affecting.
The Mandalorian does plan to leave Baby Yoda behind with Omera, as life on the run is no place for a baby, 50 years old and Force-powered or otherwise. But when a lone tracker does eventually find them, it’s not Mando or Cara that’s in the crosshairs — it’s the child. Thus, the Mandalorian knows that to protect the village, as well as his new charge, they have to remain together, and so it’s off to the next adventure. “Sanctuary” may be the closest this show has come yet to a stand-alone episode, but it’s really fun to witness how these sorts of stories can enhance our understanding of who the man is, beneath the mask.
I think some might feel the last episode felt a bit different from the initial three in that the first three episodes felt more like a three-part story that spoke to the brutality of survival in the outer-rim (wild west) and we really didn't know what to expect. The last episode was more stand-alone in nature and wrapped up as quickly as it started. Keeping in mind that these are half hour long episodes, they tried to fit a lot into a short amount of space. Had this been a two-part story I think it could've been fleshed out a bit more. As Greg Bell stated, you sort of get an A-Team vibe with this episode in that a former soldier in hiding teams up with a Lone Wolf and Cub on the run. "Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team."
Started first episode last night. Stopped when(assuming) Lando Calrissian was on screen.
I was tired and not very focused on story up to that point so decided to watch tonight at earlier time.
Have some questions. First, I am not a Star Wars junkie so not well versed in canon/timelines, etc. IIRC, The Mandalorian begins after the Empire has declined. Correct? In the first Star Wars movie, the Empire was a force(ha!) to be reckoned with; as in not in decline. When does The Mandalorian take place in context of the movies?
The Mandalorian met with guy that had a bounty to be collected. Guy was guarded by Stormtroopers. Remnants of Empire?
I've seen references to a baby Yoda. Barely skimmed thread so don't run into spoilers. If this is Yoda as a baby, then this would have to precede first Star Wars film. If so, then Empire declined and then reformed strongly?

Anyone else notice the reference to the “Star Wars Holiday Special” in the first episode? I wonder if the rights to that were bought by Disney too.
My money is still saying baby yoda is clone. Hence the dude wearing the clone scientist uniform as depicted in episode 2 iirc.

Also the last episode felt SO MUCH like an episode of Firefly that it was just....awesome.
What I like about Mando is that he can emote so much despite wearing a helmet.
He’s complicated. He kinda scoffs at being called a mercenary despite doing mercenary things.
I think they want us to think he was into the Widow but I am telling you he had chemistry with Gina Carano. And the fact he almost got his ass kicked by a woman has a few people reeeeing but they forget that this is Gina Carano. She’s tall for a girl, swole AF, and beat up Colossus.
Plus we know Mando is skilled but not a super human mary sue. He kinda reminds me of a cross between Leon the Professional, the Man with No Name, and obviously Lone Wolf snd Cub. He hasn’t forgotten where he has come from and is the first real anti-hero we’ve seen in a while. I don’t mean like an “anti-hero” that’s essentially an asshole who is the designated good guy. I mean he’s literally someone living by the sword and knows what that entails.
Honestly unless they really go off the rails, he’s more interesting than Boba Fett. He has his own morals but morals he does have.
Baby Yoda could potentially be a Force Superweapon in the making but all he sees is a baby. Like what he used to be. And someone took him in and now he takes the baby in because
This is the way.

The story takes place post Empire.
Like a Reconstruction era post Galactic Civil War. Rebellion has won and is growing fat and stupid. Imperial loyalists have a kind of Odessa Project going on where former Empire honchos are in exile or hiding with loyalist Stormtroopers hoping to rise again.
I see the hints that Baby Yoda is a Yoda clone and they are trying to harness or repurpose force sensitive beings kinda like in Metal Gear with Big Boss’ body. And while I don’t care for the new movies it kinda is a path to the First Order.
But the opportunity is RICH with some world building like the book Killer Angels or Firefly in that the Rebellion wasn’t all that and some people actually preferred the Empire as it brought order to some lawlessness.
But baby Yoda is 50 years old which means that he predates Palpatine’s reign. The Empire only stood for 20 years. So what was going on in the 30 years prior?

This series takes place five years after the events of The Return of the Jedi. Baby Yoda is not actually Yoda as a baby. It's a baby with no name, so people are just calling it "baby Yoda" for a lack of a known name. What you're seeing are remnants of the Galactic Empire who are pretty much scattered to the four winds following the defeat at the Battle of Endor.
Taking my two girls to see Frozen 2 this afternoon as well.

Ooooh, Xena reboot with Gina Carano. I'm down.
I won’t lie.
I shipped Mando and Gins Carano more than the widow.
I feel like Mando is a complicated man and Gina Carano understands him better. All the widow did was make dinner.
Plus it seemed like Gina was a little jealous. I DEMAND Mando and Gina get married and raise baby Yoda but somewhere nicer.
And I want Sixpence None the Richer’s Kiss Me to play at their wedding.
I was actually thinking, why not both? A little space polygamy never hurt anyone.

Doubtful. Fett isn't really a Mandalorian. They would kill him on sight.
I’m gonna quote ERB Deadpool: “I don’t really know enough about you to diss you”
Boba Fett without context just going by ESB and ROTJ, certainly LOOKED cool but we really don’t know how badass he is. If we accept that he is Jango’s clone son(which is kinda weird, couldn’t he have just found a woman?) then Jango had some moves but died.
So far, Mandalorian has proven to be like Mad Max, Man With No Name, and a bit of Leon the Professional. He’s cautious.
Boba Fett has a lot to live up to. Plus he’s short.
If you have 35 minutes to kill, I watched this the other day and it gives a huge history of the Mandalorian culture: https://youtu.be/awoqOq-n6CQ

Because money.
Because (for some inscrutable reason) people think Jar-Jar Abrams is brilliant, so his name draws money and crowds. Because even though the same people who wrote and approved the story, production, editing, and release of The Last Jedi wrote and approved the story, production, editing, and release of The Force Awakens, TLJ must be poorly received is because it was directed by someone who isn't Jar-Jar Abrams.

The horrible acting of the millennial bounty hunter kid was rough to watch, and I felt like what’s-her-nuts comedian Amy Sedaris was a little hokey for the quality storytelling that has occurred up this point... I felt like that last episode didn’t fit in with the rest of them.
Your critical feedback about the last episode is welcome here.
I don't think the kid's acting is any better or worse than what we've seen in any popular film or modern television series. It's certainly a matter of opinion, but because we're talking about fictional characters in a sci-fi fantasy genre, which is a far cry from something like say a biopic based on a complex public figure, I'm willing to forgive moments of lackluster acting all things considered. I didn't mind Amy Sedaris, and her involvement kind of harks back to the cheesy but well-meaning supporting characters that were prevalent in 80s TV shows. With the exception of the "IG88" bounty hunter, I see the Mandalorian's interactions with these supporting characters as a build-up to a strong network of allies he can trust if/when sh!t really goes south for him or baby Yoda. As for this episode not fitting in with the rest, I feel the last two were true stand-alone efforts that serve as vehicles to advance the character development of the Mandalorian, and taken as an individual puzzle piece, will ultimately support a larger story arc that will have a significant impact on the Star Wars narrative on a more grand scale in the future. Remains to be seen I guess.

However, I do agree Millenial Bounty Hunter was annoying and I was happy to see him get blasted.

So...Baby Yoda got me to thinking over the cloning theory. Everyone says "the times don't work out" based on the 50 year old age given out in the series. The times (depending on when the Mandalorian is set) would have been well prior to Sifo Diyas contracting the Kaminoans for the clone army.
However...
Clones age at an accelerated rate. Making this theory still within the realm of the possibility of it actually being a Yoda clone and his "age" is just an error.
Sifo Diyas went to Kamino 10 years prior to the start of the Clone Wars to have a clone army produced. The Clone Wars happened 20 years prior to ANH. From ANH to ROTJ, five years passed, making it 35 years from the time the Clones are contracted to the earliest possible start of the Mandalorian series. The time frame of The Mandalorian is still in question though we know it's after ROTJ and prior to TFA...so let's say 38 years from the time the Kaminoans were contacted for arguments sake. 28 years from the start of the Clone Wars.
So, at an accelerated growth rate of 200%, a "50 year old" Yoda clone would in fact be only 25 years old. Which would have been during the time of the Clone Wars. Maybe someone had Yoda cloned (himself even?) as a preventative measure since it was getting evident the Jedi Order was failing? He knew it was going to collapse from the last season of The Clone Wars series.
So, it is possible for Baby Yoda to actually be Yoda's clone as the timeline works out from an "accelerated" aging process.
ETA: The Kaminoans also weren't the only cloners. Just damn good ones.
Baby Yoda isn’t a clone. He is the goodness that resides in us all

Plus, watch Chap 1. Man do is told the coordinates are 50 years old, meaning the baby should be 50.

Yea but the aging rate is irrelevant if it’s a clone since it can be anything, accelerated or not.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He isn’t a clone, the species lives for centuries. Yoda was 900 when he died so it is possible that at the 50 year mark he or she is still and infant.

The Republic's Clonetroopers were accelerated in growth because they were a product and part of the product line was producing an army for the Republic in a relatively short period of time.
If the client does not specify accelerated growth, there is no need to implement it. In fact, IIRC, there were some problems with the Grand Army of the Republic's Clonetroopers due to the accelerated growth. Never mind that even the youngest clone would have aged out of the Imperial Army by the time of the Battle of Yavin.
Boba Fett's growth rate was not accelerated, for instance.
What if he starts talking and has just been quiet all along?
I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of the last things to happen in Chapter 8.

Totally agree. IG-11 will factor into whatever happens in Episode 8 in a big way. They set that up pretty clearly. I'm now wondering if they will resolve the status of the child by the end of 8, or leave that for next season?

He’s come a long way from being the guy killed by a video game in a truck stop in Maximum Overdrive.
The CGI or whatever is on point AF. That TIE fighter looked like they got a working one from an Imperial Airbase. I also like how they made sense of it doing a stable vertical landing.
Plus I swear I had the toy of that troop carrier APC as an 80s kid. When I saw that I geeked out.

If I remember correctly, that APC was only a toy and never in the original trilogy. Think it was one of the Star Wars toy documentaries that said that. As I was watching the scene I thought to myself that it may be the first time the APC was used in a live action Star Wars.
