I know Todd has done his interesting test with the 9mm M&P. Does anyone know of extended shooting with a .45 (or a .40) M&P? I'm curious as to the durability of these two calibers, but especially the .45.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the .40 and .45 M&Ps the same size as the 9mm? If so, I'm especially interested to see if they hold up as well in the larger calibers.

Any data on passing tests for contracts?

Thanks for any info.

The M&P in .40 S&W was the original model and then the 9mm was built off of it, so they share the same size frame and slide. The 45 is a different frame and slide and is larger dimensionally then the 9mm and .40 pistols.

As Erik stated the M&P was designed as a .40 first then the 9 was based off of that. Not the other way around as in most .40s. Given this I would expect the durability to be very good.

Todd is not yet at liberty to disclose what he might be doing next except to say that he's going to poke Joe in the eye the next time I see him.

edited to add: I know Smith has internally tested a number of 40's and 45's to 30k+, but I cannot go into significant detail at this time

.45 is a low pressure round so i would not expect he same amount of wear on a pistol as .40 or .357.

Todd would not be testing a .357 after all the times he has talked about the superiority of the 9mm......would he? ;)
