Husband is a firefighter (truckie) and was busted up on a structure fire on Halloween , and he goes into surgery for his ACL, MCL , and meniscus tomorrow morning.....He'll be on crutches for awhile, but wanted to look for a cane that fits his personality for when he can transition to it . This whole thing has been a blow to his ego, and hates the thought of a cane, .... "Alpha male/Infantry/martial arts/MMA/weight pile Gym rat / fit /outdoorsman type "person, haha' ..Are There any tacti-cool canes out there? defensive ? or even canes that just look cool, or funny.?

Do a search on Blackthorn Shillelagh and/or Irish stick fighting.

Good Blackthorn root canes are getting harder to find but Cold Steel makes a polymer version.

You might find the Cold Steel Walkabout worth taking a look at, I have one I use when the Bad Hip Days start clustering or just when I see someone new and hinky around the neighborhood. (I WANTED a cane like Mr. Hammond's in Jurassic Park, but function trumps form and nobody makes one rated for even mere load-bearing never mind combat use.)

Actually just watched it on the phone. Too be honest looked up the prices on line , I think im going to order one. seem to be in the $20 range, and at that price if he doesn't like it we are not out much. plus he wants 2 or 3 options here, so that will be the first . Thanks, Do you know if we have any vendors on this site that sells them? Rather support the guys here

Leki walking stick....very discreet and great for hiking once full recovery is achieved.

Another vote for blackthorn. Not much is stronger, other than rebar. Tall sizes are hard to find and $$$.

I recently got one from Brazos for my hikes in the FL parks and such.

I have this one, and it's quite nice:

Me, I like a legit wood stick. They also have a long line of canes:

Steve Tarani teaches a great walking cane class.
Younger son and I spent 2 days at his class banging on each other trying out his techniques.
When i travel to NY or Boston I always carry my cane.
Try Amazon for video's and books.

With knee surgery you go from two crutches to one to zero. You shift the one crutch to the other side. You want the knee to get stronger, fast. Half the supporting structure of the knee is actually muscular.
