View Full Version : Prosecutions tied to AR15 design
This may be common knowledge, but an interesting article on how the design and assembly of the AR15 affects prosecutions, and how that affects future proposed laws.

Read about this somewhere else. Not sure if I like where they are going....could it lead to making the upper the “firearm”?
Not only the AR15, but every modern rifle on the market.

My wife and I read this and our first thoughts were this leading to making the upper and lower serialized.
If I remember correctly, didn't FNC's serial numbers go the opposite way when the holder of the registered DIAS's put them on the market?
The Feds can make a simple restructure of the 86 ban by having another amnesty. If they give amnesty to illegal aliens, giving it to inanimate objects shouldn't be a stretch. After all, the owners go through a more stringent check.....

Agreed - this sounds like they are making a case to serialize all major parts.
This is what happens when people that don't understand rule on a topic...............
They’re eventually going to require serial numbers and transfers on bolts and barrels. If you’re trying to control the commerce, you have to control those two things.

Could this also affect pistol frames and slides? I know it’s a stretch, but what if you have beretta 92s with spare 96 slides\barrels or some thing similar.
Per usual they greatest threat to life and liberty inevitably ends up being ones own government.

Lots of countries the barrel is the firearm.
This is a shitty court case with a shitbag defendant.
This will not end well for us.

Oh I think they understand just fine. More red tape, more hoops to jump through, more government intrusion, more restrictions, more tracking and registering...more ways to run afoul of the law doing nothing at all that's actually wrong. That's what they want.
Eventually, possession of a recoil spring will be enough to send you to jail.
“Land of the Free,” they call it ...

My PPQ 9mm is already this way. Ser# is stamped on the barrel, the slide, and the frame. It was made in Germany, so maybe it's a German thing. My S&W 5906 is stamped only on the frame.

Glock has put the serial on the frame, slide, and barrel for awhile (possibly always, would have to check), made in Austria or United States
Aks also have sn on multiple parts.
I always assumed it was continued from the days of hand-fit parts.
Come to Canada and see what our idiot in charge is doing to us.

Have you tried violent armed revolution yet? I mean it’s an option.

It never ends well for the good guy.

My S&W 5906 is stamped only on the frame. Its at least a German thing and at least once was a wide spread practice in Europe and many other places. It may also be tied into German proofing laws, helping ensure that the parts of a pistol were proof tested together as a unit.
In the US its usually just a single serial number, with exceptions for some revolvers using more hand fit parts, either serializing these parts to match or using a seperate factory assembly number to keep parts together.
