What's a good place to pick one up? With the panic going the way it is, it won't be long until we are forced to switch to .22 for practice. I want to recreate my 11.5" BCM in .22lr, so that everything except the recoil feels the same.

I know nothing about .22lr platform ARs so I am hoping those that do can point me in the right direction. The only one I knew of is CMMG but they don't have an 11.5"

Thanks!

May not help you, but I’ve been thinking about getting a 223 rifle barrel hacked down to ~12” and using a conversion kit with a Sionics or KAC handguard with a dedicated can. It seems like a good idea in my head.

CMMG makes dedicated 22lr barrels, but not 11.5". 9" is the closest.

They also make complete dedicated 22lr uppers.

I have both a 22LR upper, and several conversion units. I would imagine for what you are contemplating a CMMG Bravo kit would be most effective:

I also use Better-Mag adapters so I can use S&W MP-22 magazines: https://www.redi-mag.com/product/better-mag-s-22-rimfire-magazine-adaptor/

On the .223/5.56 uppers I just shoot a few rounds of rifle ammo after use to make sure the gas port is clear.

You might also make this query on the AR Pistols & Pistol Caliber ARs sub forum.

Not in stock. But I have one and like it.

Clint Beyer sold me a 12.5” recently and since the 22 barrel protrudes so far into the upper receiver it’s almost the exact length of my 11.5” 5.56 barrel.

When going back and forth, how far off is the POA/POI at short distances? Assuming I would just use a conversion kit in my SBR. Say within 25y.

I went the adapter route with my shorty AR. It wasn't looking before groups went from about 6 inches offhand at 25 yards to 6 feet. Cleaned the lead out of the adapter and groups shrank to normal. Then again jumped up to 6 feet. Bought a dedicated upper from PSA and get 3-4 inch groups offhand and haven't had any problems with leading or groups opening up. If you're gonna shoot any amount of 22 rimfire, get a dedicated upper or S&W MP-22

Do remember what 22 rounds you are using? I generally try to use copper clad bullets - Federal 325 round value packs are what I shoot the most.

As far as I know, the only difference between the 'BCG' on the dedicated and the one on the conversion is the removal of the chamber adapter on the dedicated bolt.

I have never noticed that much. Although the grand kids use them way more than me.

I do notice with all conversions that I can generally shoot without stoppages where others have problems - you need to be behind the rifle. (ETA - these will all FTF or FTE every once and a while.)

Also, none of mine lock back on an empty mag, if you want that I'd recommend the M&P.

Yes, the difference between the dedicated unit and the adapter unit is the chamber adapter. We used a variety of ammo in the adapter. Most of it copper plated. Since the suppressor was added to the dedicated upper, we've been shooting Gemtec subsonic through it.

Thanks. I had to look that up.

Is this close enough?

Based on the last tard panic, it was WAY easier to shoot .223/5.56 than .22LR.

22 LR is the toilet paper of gun tards. I don't even mess with rimfire in normal/rational conditions anymore.

It all depends though. It was way easier financially to stock up on 20,000 rounds of 22lr before this panic than it was 5.56. If a person did this. 22lr is the cheap way to go and also saves your 5.56 reserves.

It's not just cost. One of the awesome things about moving from NJ to NC is that I can shoot in my back yard. 5.56 out of an 11.5" SBR is... well... loud. I was shooting it on Sunday and my wife asked me to stop lol. I figure it will be quieter to shoot .22LR. At least until my cans get out of jail.

Also, see below.

Something I did [not 20,000 tho] despite not even having a .22 I knew this day would come.

FWIW I bought one of those cheap 16" 22 uppers that were on sale a couple of Black Fridays ago.

Had the barrel chopped and threaded then put it on a braced pistol lower to setup as a dedicated 22 gun.

Runs great as long as you use decent mags.

I'm only like $300 or so into the whole thing, minus sights.

Great for practice. Cheap to shoot.
