Murder on the Orient Express, Stephen Branagh’s version is pretty decent, almost Gosford Park good

Knives Out, a bit campy and over acted, but also very well assembled

Casablanca, there are a few murders and it is an upbeat film noir mashup

North by Northwest, which may be the best murder mystery ever due to great writing, great direction and Cary Grant’s timing

I thought Fracture had a pretty good twist. It's worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

The Usual Suspects
Miller's Crossing

Most ANY episode of "Grantchester" or "Sherlock!" (BBC)

Most every episode of "Perry Mason," for that matter!

If you’re looking for stand alones, the BBC “Cracker” with Robbie Cloltrane are really good.

For series, Broadchurch is excellent. So is The Killing, and The Fall (but it’s a little less of a who dunnit, and more of a cat and mouse crime drama).

Out of the Past.

That said, much as I love classic noir, LA Confidential was amazing.

I think kiss kiss bang bang is underrated, I rather enjoyed it.

Clue. Classic, fun whodunnit- I can watch that movie over and over.

LA Confidential was awesome.

Murder by death is another just plain fun one that doesn’t get old.

Who framed roger rabbit is another fun one, ridiculous, but an entertaining watch.

Presumed innocent was good, so was mystic river.

If looking for a little comedy, The Man Who Knew Too Little was great. Murray was channeling a little Peter Sellers I think.

And I loved Clue, of course I'm pretty much good to go for anything with Colleen Camp, especially in a french maid outfit.

I'm a sucker for Bogart/Bacall movies. Key Largo, The Big Sleep, To Have and Have Not, Dark Passage
Then you have Gilda with Rita Hayworth

I highly recommend a little known film by Denzel Washington: Devil in a Blue Dress.

Same year L.A. Confidential came out and took all the attention from this movie of the same time period/genre, and I thought Devil in a Blue Dress was the better movie.

I completely unknown Don Cheadle was nominated for an Oscar in a supporting role, and should have won it easily. Don Cheadle is off the hook good in this movie.

"L.A. Confidential" is the gold standard for me. I've seen it at least 5 times. I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I think "Chinatown" is overrated. I would agree that "North by Northwest" is also one of the best and I would add "Vertigo" and "Rear Window". "Insomnia" and "The Pledge" for "newer" ones - neither will leave you feeling satisfied at the end, though.

"Ten Little Indians"
"The Name of the Rose"

I've not seen either of these, but I have And Then There Were None. I'll have them out. Thanks.

I just watched Shanghai and thought it was pretty good.

In addition to the movies already posted I’d add “Sea of Love” and “Striking Distance”

I’m an Alfred Hitchcock fan too.

“Midsomer Murders.” Movie length TV episodes. There’s 20 seasons of it.

“Father Brown.” Another TV series with an unassuming sleuth.

Not as intellectually intense as some movies, but I love some good old Charlie Chan!
