need help with accessories

i'm pretty new to the AR platform, and am looking for some help outfitting my 6920. the rifle will see duty in HD, general range use, along with a tactical class or three.

i subscribe to the KISS idea with most of my firearms and would like to add a few additions to enhance the effectiveness of the rifle with out any permanent modification.

i'd like to add a light and have heard good things about the G2led. what mounts can i use that require no permanent mods? any pics of the mounts would be helpful.

i have the standard sling in use right now, but am considering a vickers/blue force.

an ergo grip will find it's way on the rifle shortly.

i'm considering an aimpoint down the road, but current funding prohibits it for now and i'd like to work with the irons until proficient with them before adding an optic.

any suggestions are appreciated

Personally on my 6920 i have a LaRue 7.0 handrail, vickers padded sling, aimpoint m3, with troy (larue) BUIS. I am also looking at a mount for my G2led light but haven't decided between the $20 Viking tactics mount or the $60 Vltor offset mount. Viking being plastic and 1 ounce lighter but still a really tough mount. Vltor just being a super flat easy to mount and metal.

If you want to keep your 6920 light and simple. Get the Vickers Padded Sling. Daniel defense lite or m4 rail. and a aimpoint t1.

if using the standard handguard, how durable and solid are the bolt-on strips of rail? looks like the viking mount would suffice until i decide to mount a DD omega.

if your mounting a light, the standard rail should work. if your planning on mounting any kind of grip it all depends on what your planning on doing. if i were to put a VFG i'd def. consider a rail. rails are sweet, they can help with accuracy and you can be tacticool.

I have a bolt on rail on one of my rifles and it would be fine for mounting a light. You need to decide on where you want to mount your light. They also make light mounts for the front sight base, such as the Elzetta. I use the G2LED on my rifles and really like it. Most of the standard mounts work with it; such as the Viking Tactics, Daniel Defense, and Vltor.

if/when mounting a VFG, i would then go with a DD omega or similar. the standard hand guard has some play as it is (assuming this is normal).

i've seen some of the FSB mounts but would prefer to keep the light mount further back becasue it feels unnatural to grip the handguard out that far.

i'm thinking a piece of rail mounted on top of the handguard with the light mouted to the left so that i could actuate the tailcap with my thumb. sound right?


anyone have theirs setup like this? maybe a few pics of how you guys have set up your lights with a standard handguard?

You don't need a rail to mount a light, and I'd save the rail money to put towards an Aimpoint. I thinkthe $:benefits of the RDS are much greater than a rail. You don't need a $300 light mount to put a $50 light on.

Later on, this same mount can be used to hold a Surefire X300 if you go that route.

You can do this, but even with a shorter X300 I found that it limited my hand space on the handguard way too much. Put a G2 on there and you're going to be even more limited. This is the same carbine as above but with the handguard mount. This would be considered a "before" picture.

thanks for the pics, rob. are there any negatives to using the FSB mount? it looks like it will work quite well. is there any concern regarding the durability of the mount or the FSB itself when adding wight to it? i'm assuming there wouldn't be, but just don't want to run into issues down the road.

i dont really need the full rail handguard and i agree the money is better spent on the aimpoint.

any fullshot pics of the carbine with the g2 and no aimpoint?

I set up the gun with the G2 just to take the pics and then stripped it off an reinstalled the X300, so no other pics.

i've seen a few guys use the FSB for a sling mount, so i'm assuming that it's plenty rugged to mount a light. correct?

Hey rob_s, on your picture with the MI fsb mount, is it me or does the flshlight not run parralel to the barrel. Instead, it looks like it angles up slightly. Am I seeing things here or is it that way?

Sorry for another dumb question, but is it safe to assume that there isn't any durability issues with mounting a light to the fsb?

I think there's a little wobble in the way you can install the MI, and it's adjustable via that wobble. I have an X300 on it normally and while it may cant slightly it's not an issue indoors.

Durability wise, I'll have to wait until February. Putting 2500 through it in 3 days and I'll get a good test of the setup then.

A big reason for me having a light on a gun is for outdoor use, so the wiggle might not be a good thing. I guess I'll have to look at another light mount(and there are so few that don't require a rail).

Exactly. It doesn't wiggle once tightened, it just has a bit of play as you tighten it down and you can use that wiggle to adjust it. Keep tightening the screw and it will lock up tight.
